It was the 11th of November 2017 and it was my 24th birthday! Mackenzie and Phoebe prepared me a mountain of pancakes for breakfast. They put a lighted candle on top of it and I blew the candle as they sang 'Happy birthday'. Minutes later, my parents called.

"Happy birthday sweetie!" they chorused.

After I thanked them, mom asked me, "What are you going to do today, Vivienne?"

"Well, it is still Friday so I'll be off to work," I answered.

Dad then told me, "Well I hope you'll still enjoy the day darling!"

"I will." I lied. Everyone at work would be busy today for an upcoming project and all hands were on board. But I needed to stay positive. After all, it was my birthday. My parents ended the call after saying some thoughtful messages and wishing me some good luck. The girls and I then ate our breakfast. Apparently, they had also prepared delicious eggs and bacons. I took the last bite of my wonderful breakfast, taking in all the goodness I needed for this day. After I helped cleaning the dishes, my phone rang. I almost combusted when I saw Charles' name appear on my phone. It had been a year and a half since the time we left each other on that chilly night. He never called me after until now. I screamed making the girls jumped.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" Mackenzie yelled. I held up my phone and showed them what was making me frenzy. The phone was still ringing and I was in full panic.

"What am I going to do?" I spitted the words as I was jumping up and down, afraid as if there was a time bomb in my hands.

Phoebe placated me, "Calm down Vivienne!" She held my body to keep me from moving like a worm that had lost its tail.

"What am I going to do?!" I repeated the words. I was so frantic that my heart was pumping blood one thousand miles per second.

"Answer it!" Mackenzie said.

"No! Are you crazy?" Phoebe protested.

I was so confused right now and I couldn't decide for myself.

"Guys???" I needed them to decide faster. The girls were still debating on whether I should answer or not. My finger was itching to answer his call. I looked back at the girls who were still talking fast to each other. I wanted, no, I needed to hear him again. Just as I was about to press answer, the ringing had ended. I was left stupefied. I internally whimper. Whatever, I was not that excited to hear from him again. I just went to the bathroom and prepared myself for the day.

I passed my internship eight months ago and I was now a writer for the company. Olivia couldn't bark orders at me anymore, cue evil laugh. I also made a new friend in my workplace. His name is John Lewis and he's the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He looked charming with his sleek back blonde hair, suit and tie which were required at work, and glasses that made him a sexy nerd. He was the one who approached to me first when I was still an intern and I was so touched by that gesture. It was hard not to gawk at John and get carried away by his British accent. But my heart was still not yet healed to love again. Besides, John and I were just friends and Olivia had set her eyes on him.

John was waiting for me at the entrance of the building holding a box of cupcakes.

"Happy birthday!" he greeted as he went over to give me a hug.

"Thanks John! And oooh, nice tie!" I took the box from him and he fixed his pink tie.

"Well it's your birthday so I wore this tie as a tribute. And keeping you happy today will be the best gift I'll give to you because darling you're going to need it," he said as we walked towards the elevator. John draped his arm around my shoulders and we were laughing at some office jokes. Before the elevator door closed, Olivia had managed to get inside and ride with us. Shit.
