I'm so damn stupid. After all this, after being able to finally get away from our parents, I realise what minor, but significant mistake I have made.

That cork board in my room. The one with pictures of where I want to travel in the future. It had New York City in the very middle of it and all over the place too.

I couldn't take it with me, but even if I did, my mother has been in my room before and seen it. She insisted on tearing it down because is was apparently childish to have dreams like mine.

My mother warned me that if I don't take it down she'll burn it because for her bright, colourful pictures ruined the "atmosphere" of the house as the rest of it was gloomy, something similar to a graveyard shed. That's how my father and her liked it, so we got used to living in what I called a "black hole".

I took it down and where did I put it? Under my bed. I totally forgot it was even there.

She knew we'd come here. Just...How in the world did she know where in New York we'd be?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a coincidence, she was standing there beside those shops clearly awaiting our arrival.

I think we should leave this state and...Oh yeah. Do what? Heaven help me, because I have no clue.

The taxi comes to a sudden stop at Alex's home before letting us pop out off the car with a grateful smile.

We enter the hallway and are greeted by the woman who welcomed us last time, just with a slightly less content expression than she had at our first coming to her beautiful residence.

Alex receives a glare from her and I stare at the scene blankly. Nobody says a word for a couple of minutes as Mrs.White taps her foot impatiently.

"What did I do this time" he groans, not anticipating the answer.

"You tell me!" she furrows her eyebrows in anger, "Alex this isn't acceptable and you know exactly what I'm talking about"

"Mom, it's my business...I'm doing what I can to..." he gets cut off.

"Protect them yes? Is that what you were going to say?"

"You won't understand. How did you...?"

"You're phone was blowing up with messages from some woman and I got a little suspicious..."

That's when something clicked into place. I didn't understand at first but when Mrs. White said "woman" my imagination started running marathons.

Does he know?

Is he tangled into our life somehow?

I'm thinking this is like some chaotic drama novel. The kind that you have to wait until the end to figure out who the bad guys and the heroes are.

Until now Alex and his mother were most certainly our heroes. But after this situation I have a feeling we are down to one.

I don't have a clue if who's side Alex is on...But...He helped us, he is on ours. My mind kills me sometimes. Why would I ever think different. He's being so generous, giving up his free time to take our minds of this horrible thing we have to stumble past. That "thing" is our current life.

"Alex what do you think you're doing?" his mother questions, causing me to flip back to reality.

"I...don't know!" he begins calmly but the aggressive tone I've never heard coming from him before, arises at the end of his sentence.

Before I know it, he hurries up the stairs, slamming the door slightly, leaving a tense atmosphere behind him.

What are we going to do?
