Chapter 25

Ren's POV

A maid scurried over to Galloway and relieved him of the potted dandelion while I led him outside of my dad's room. We were alone in the small living area excluding the guards that were always there, but I was so used to them being around that the potential of them listening in wasn't a bother to me.

"What's your purpose for being here Prince Galloway?"

He seemed a taken back by my bluntness, but responded nonetheless.

"I'm here to help King Hugo. He's obviously feeling under the weather so I thought I would help him relax with some dandelions."

"That's not what I'm talking about," I sighed, "but I do thank you for that. The smell of dandelions usually calms him down."

"Look, I'm not trying to be a burden. I just thought I would try to enjoy my time here until you kicked me out. And since I can't be of much help in the uhh, romance department, I thought I would help in other ways," he shrugged, giving me a solemn smile for once.

I realized this was one of the first times I had truly seen him be serious. Normally, he was making sarcastic comments or flirting shamelessly with every female in sight, but today, he was serious. I also realized something a bit more shocking than that. I didn't hate him. Whether it was for helping my dad when I didn't or for not stringing me along in the first place, I didn't hate him.

"Thank you," I replied.

After a moment of silence, I found I had nothing more to say.

"That's it?" he asked with his eyebrows scrunched in confusion and a bit of astonishment plastered on his face.

"That's it. I'm...I'm just content today with your honesty," I honestly replied, giving him a single nod.

"Well...Okay. Do you mind if...," he motioned towards my dad's room.

"Go ahead. He seemed like he wanted to talk to you," I found myself replying.

As he walked inside, I had the faintest of inklings that he could potentially be a really good friend to have.

****

I hated her. I mean I really hated her.

I didn't have any idea who she was, but judging by the way she was touching Isaac's arm and looking at him, I didn't like her.

I rolled my eyes as she smiled and laughed at whatever Isaac was telling her. He probably wasn't even saying anything funny; she just wanted to be flirty.

You like him.

The statement popped into my head so readily that I was caught by surprise. Of course I didn't like him. I was just looking out for a friend in need. She is obviously no good for him and I'm going to make sure he knows it.

I practically stomped over to Isaac and the girl with a scowl on my face. As much as I tried to look pleasant and presentable, those two words were not something I could convert into an action. I was too angry for that.

You mean jealous.

No! Angry.

Isaac saw me coming over and said something to the girl. She turned and smiled widely at me.

The nerve of her. Wait until I put her in her place.

"Isaac, who is this girl you know," I haughtily asked, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Isaac," the girl asked with a confused expression on her face.

"Remy, I'd like to introduce you to Olive. Olive this is Remy. I mean Princess Ren," he nervously laughed.
