Chapter 4
Ren's POV
I hated parties.
Especially when they were for me.
To top it off, I hate parties that my father throws for me and invites every prince and princess around, plus every sixteen to eighteen year old in the kingdom!
I took a deep breath to stop myself from completely losing it.
Today was my birthday and I couldn't be sadder.
I was going to be on full display for all the guests at the party and I hadn't even started getting ready. My dress was already picked out (yes, my father was turning this into a freaking ball), but my hair and makeup still had to do done.
My personal maids were here to wait in me hand and foot, but I had dismissed them for the time being.
I had been so depressed the whole week, I hadn't even played a single prank. Not even something little.
That made me even more depressed.
The only thing keeping me from skipping town was the thought that Gail was coming. That and the amount of presents I was going to get, but she was the more practical reason. Gail would have to suffer through the night with me.
Well, maybe not suffer on her part. She was practically bouncing off the walls when I told her about my party.
Most of her excitement was about meeting a handsome prince (literally) and falling in love and having beautiful children. Her words, not mine.
Of course, I had to tell her how impractical that was of her and she just told me I was a Debbie Downer.
Whatever.
Yesterday, she dragged me along to pick her out a dress. We shopped for five hours and didn't find anything so just to end the shopping trip, I offered to have my seamstress make her a dress. She was so exhausted from our all day trip, she just agreed.
My dress had been finished last week (how my seamstress knew I would need a dress, I don't know) so she had plenty of time to make one for Gail.
I saw the dress when I went to get mine and it's gorgeous, especially for Gail's skin tone. It's a dark cream color with ruffled tresses on the bottom that happen to be layered as well. Then the top is sleeveless with a bunch of little flowers that cover the whole thing. The top stops just above the waist, then the bottom flares out into a ballroom skirt.
She hasn't seen it yet, but she'll be here in a few minutes. Plus, I had to text her and tell her how awesome it is.
My dress, however, was quite the sight. It took me a few minutes to get used to it, but I loved it now.
It was a light pink color with loads of tool on the bottom. The top had tool-like sleeves to my elbow, a sweetheart neckline and a light pink design on the darker pink that ended just at the waist. To top the look off was my bright and shiny tiara. This particular was a birthday gift from three years ago. Even though we had a plethora of royal jewels and tiaras, Dad decided to have one specially made for me. It truly was a sight to see.
I settled into my high back chair and waited for Gail to get here. She was just going to get my maids to do her makeup and hair along with mine.
I heard someone knock on my door so ran over to greet my friend. The door opened, however, and Gail was not there, but my dad was.
"Dad," I said stepping back a bit and putting on a neutral face.
"Hey, Princess. You're not getting ready yet?"
