Chapter 4

Hope's POV

All Alphas go to school before they are able or deemed responsible enough to lead a pack. If an Alpha's doesn't pass their pack can be taken from them or they can be stripped of their Alpha title. In school, we learn things not many supernatural species learn or even know about. Our world is full of secrets one of those secrets being the protector.

Now growing up all supernatural species hear stories about the protector. For a lot of species it is believed to be a myth. The protector is the most valuable supernatural there has ever been. They're born into a random supernatural species so nobody knows which species will end up with the protector. When a protector dies their spirit is passed onto another so the cycle starts again. The protector's job is to keep our world a secret from the human world. Their job is to also protect supernatural species from Rouges a species that put us all in danger. The protector holds power you can only dream of and when they learn how to master it they're invincible.

Many Rouge's don't like the protector for this reason. Rouges often try to find and kill the protector before they learn to master their powers. The only thing is the protector doesn't even know that they are the protector until the council arrives and informs them. In rare cases the protector isn't found. The protector's identify is suppose to stay a secret. If to many people know who the protector is it can bring great danger. We finally get to the house and I bring Mal into her bedroom. I tuck her in bed and look down at Mal's face. She has no clue but everything is about to change. I go downstairs and go into the living room where the pack is waiting. I can see the worried expressions on their faces.

"Go to your rooms, I'll explain everything later. Ashlyn, Tobin, Christen, Carli, Meghan, and Diane stay."

Once I know everyone is in their rooms I go into the kitchen to check on Julie. Julie is sitting on a stool while Ali heals her.

"Once you guys are done, go upstairs with the others."

Ali and Julie nod so I leave and go outside where the council and everyone else is waiting.

"She is the one." Shannon says.

"No she can't be she's still a baby my baby." Diane responds.

I pull Diane close to me I know she's scared. I am too I just can't show it I have to be strong for my pack.

"Hey, everything is going to be okay." I say.

Diane nods and looks at the council.

"What happens now?" Ashlyn asks.

"Mallory Pugh must be protected at every cost. She must never reveal her powers to anybody outside of the pack. Since your territory is so isolated we will be coming here to train her so she can master her powers. But for now she may feel weak, sick to the point where all she will want to do is cry. Mallory may need to be nursed if she doesn't want to eat, but no matter what she needs to eat. This will take a huge toll on her body. Since Mallory is a hybrid her situation will come with a lot more pain than any protector before. Her body will have to adapt to the power and merge both her werewolf and vampire abilities into one. Your healer, Ali will need to help her a lot. For now let Mallory sleep, her mate will worry but tell her not to." Jill says.

Since when does Mal have a mate?

"Her mate?" Meghan ask.

"Yes." Abby looks at us with much confusion. "Julie and Mallory have the bond. That's why her power came out when it did. When your mate is in danger you have the natural instinct to protect them but Mallory's instinct was intensified." Abby explains.

I wonder why JJ and Mal didn't tell us they were mates. I mean it makes since. They're all over each other but so are a lot of members in our pack. I'll talk to JJ with Carli later.

"Julie must be made aware that she will feel the pain along with Mallory because of how strong their bond is." Lauren says.

"Okay, we can talk more about this in the morning. For now everyone get some sleep and nobody is going to school tomorrow. I'll send word to our brother pack so they know." I say.

Everyone agrees and heads up to their rooms. I go to my room and sit so I can look out the window. The trees go on for miles they connect us to everything. I hear my door open and moments later I feel arms wrap around me.

"Can't sleep?"

I sigh and turn my head so I can look at Carli.

"Do I ever sleep?" I ask.

Carli turns me around so I'm facing her while she's in between my legs.

"Yes, you're a hybrid not a full vampire so you need to sleep. But I know you haven't been sleeping these past few days." Carli says.

"I know, I've sensed you I'm sorry for pushing you away."

Carli puts her hands on my face and I look into her eyes.

"Hey, its all going to be fine. I love you Hope."

"I love you too."

Carli takes my hands and leads me over to our bed. She lays down and pulls me into the bed with her.

"Go to sleep Hope, I'll be here when you wake up."

I lay my head on Carli's chest and take in her scent before closing my eyes. I find it difficult to fall asleep so I take a deep breath and listen. I hear all the heartbeats of my pack. Knowing everyone in the house is safe is comforting. I feel myself slowly falling asleep.
