"Good job," Kado said, rousing her from her meditative state. "You have earned a day off tomorrow."
"Giving up already?" She grinned, dipping her head below the surface.
Kado waited until she resurfaced before answering. "No, but it will get dark soon, and we have no food for our evening meal."
Auren glanced at the sky, frowning. "How long have we been in the lake?"
"About an hour now, treading water. Another two hours before that. Come on," he said, swimming to shore.
"So technically I earned a day and five hours of free time," she said, when they were standing on dry land once again.
Kado pointed a finger in Auren's direction. "Don't push your luck. Head back to the campsite and get the fire started. I'll be looking for food along the lakeside and the nearby forest. I won't be long."
"Okay," she said, walking slowly up the hill.
Kadowatched her for a moment before heading off toward the cattails he had spottedearlier. Their shoots had mildly sweet flavor would make a great start for asalad. He was sure he could find nuts, berries and other things in and near thewoods.
