"Her name is nightmare."Wyatt seemed to jump at the sound of my croaky voice. He turned around and faced me with a glowing smile; his hand still letting the little black cat. "Nightmare?" He asked, raising a eyebrow.
I shuffled my feet towards him and carefully sat beside him on the front porch. My head still pounded, but not as much as before. "I call her that because whenever I have a nightmare, she's always there for me." I answered, my voice finally confident. "I guess you could say she protects me from the bad dreams."
Wyatt gazed at me softly. "I have bad dreams, too." He said. "But I have a different way of dealing with them."
It was my turn to raise an eyebrow. "Oh, really? And what's that?"
He stifled a chuckle. "Believe it or not, but I like to bake cookies after a bad dream."
"Well you and my mother will get along just fine."
We both shared a hearty laugh and it was as if time had stopped. Everything around me was bright and glowing. I've never had this feeling before; my heart was beating against my chest. Am I still sick?
Wyatt's front now faced me, and the cat jumped off his lap and onto the grass. "Even though I technically won the bet between my counsellor and I, and I know you know what I'm talking about-"
"W-what?" I asked confusedly.
"I know you were listening in that time, so don't play innocent." He laughed loudly, making my cheeks heat up and no doubt red as a tomato. "I'm still gonna go to more counselling sessions. I think it would really help me... cope with my past." He stared at the ground, his long fingers fiddling with each other.
I couldn't stop the wide smile creeping into my lips. "That's great, Wyatt." I said enthusiastically.
"And also, I wanted to ask you something," My heart began to pound again, this time much harder and faster. "Your brother once said something to me about your past, with you not having any friends. I just wanted to know what happened."
Oh, I thought- more like hoped- he was going to ask me out. Oops.
"My friends weren't who I thought they were. They seemed like they wanted to be around me, but really, they apparently hated me. It got to a point where they just didn't even talk to me anymore. I was so confused; what did I do wrong, you know?" I let out a heavy, shaky sigh. "They began to bully me and pretty much told everyone in the whole school all these lies, and I guess that shattered me. I became who I am now because of them, and I really hate that."
Tears began to sting my eyes and I felt Wyatt's rough hands envelope over my cold ones. "It's not your fault, Ivory." He said, making me shake my head. "I... I love who you are."
Tingles shot through my spine and I swung my head up in shock. "Y-you do?"
He sweetly grinned and nodded his head. "Of course, Ivory." He suddenly took in a deep breath. "If you wouldn't mind, would you like to maybe- I don't know, go out with me?" He was nervous, very nervous. I've never seen him like this. It took me a moment to actually realise what he just asked and my eyes were unimaginably wide. Wyatt suddenly look worried. "A-are you okay?" He stuttered.
Of course I was okay, I was more than okay. Before Wyatt said another word, I lunged at him, not caring if it would hurt or not. My arms were around his shoulders, and I squeezed him tight. Wyatt's arms slowly wrapped around my waist as he too realised what was happening. "So, I'll take that as a yes?" He asked playfully.
I nodded, my body still pressed against his. This moment was perfect, it's what I've dreamed of since I was little. I've never had a guy ask me out before, but I most certainly knew what I would say even before he asked me.
"Yes."
