... { " My voice was but a
whisper. " }

Avoiding Wyatt proved to be easier than I thought. He wouldn't be near the canteen, and neither would I since there were too many people. He wouldn't be in the library -where I have my lunch and do my homework- because the librarian once caught him making a few other students do his work for him.

Or so she told me.

I sat in my usual chair, working ahead of my biology class with a thick textbook on my lap. I would always be ahead of class, just in case I get pulled up by the teacher for not doing the work - which would make me more noticeable. I didn't want that.

"Ivory, darling, I thought I'd find you here." Mrs. Hart said as she approached me. "I need your help."

I tilted my head to the side and furrowed my eyebrows as if to say, 'What is it?'

"Could you grab a few books from the science room for me? They were supposed to be returned yesterday but you know how unorganised Mr. Lang is." She chuckled, her voice cheery and light.

I nodded and stood up. She gave me a grateful smile, showing her small whitened teeth. After placing the textbook in my bag, I left the library and proceeded towards the science room, which wasn't that far.

Thankfully, hardly anyone was wandering through the halls, seeing as it was lunch and everyone would be either on the field or at the canteen.

After turning a corner, I entered the hallway that lead to the science room. As I walked towards the door, small whispers erupted from behind me. I shrugged them off and walked faster, but they seemed to get louder.

"Are you sure that's her?"

"Obviously, just look at her."

I started to jog the rest of the way, when suddenly a hand snatched my wrist, pulling me back and bumping into a tall body. I looked up and saw a girl who looked like she was in my year glare back at me. I tried to yank my arm out of her grip, but it was so tight that her fingernails dug into my skin.

"Oh, I'm sorry, do you want me to let go?" she asked, sarcasm dripping from her tongue.

I nodded quickly, wincing as her grip became even tighter. Her eyes glinted with amusement as she swung my body around, causing me to hit the wall beside me. I sunk to the ground, my knees no longer awake and my head dizzy from the large amounts of breath I was taking in such a short time.

She crouched down to my level as the other girl stood above me with her arms folded over her chest. "Why didn't you just say so?" she laughed, throwing her head back and then stood up so she towered over my hunched body.

Then, as I stared at the ground wishing it was all over, the girl grabbed a fistful of my hair and dragged me to the middle of the hallway. Every single line of hair burned into my scalp and I yelped and groaned in pain. My stomach growled, my head was spinning and my lungs aching. I wanted to throw up, to become nonexistent, to completely disappear.

A foot made contact with my ribs once the hand in my hair released. I laid on my side, clenching every part of my body and trying to shrink away as the two girls screamed horrible words and slammed their fists into my body.

"Come on, talk!" one of them yelled in my ear, causing a loud whimper to escape my lips.

My stiff lungs prevented any air to enter as I constantly gasped for breath. After a few more insults and kicks in the legs, the girls hissed at me and walked away. Their venomous giggles drowned me in fear, leaving my mind hollow. I couldn't scream, or say anything. My words were choked in my throat. I couldn't talk, I was too frightened someone else would hear me and do the same thing the girls did.

My whole body burned as if a fire of pain swept throughout. I cried, the short sobs chocked behind. I rolled over on my stomach, but that seemed to make it all worse.

As a fuzzy cloud overcame my sight, another tall figure stood at the end of the hallway. My body shook with fear as the figure noticed me and began to sprint.

"Ivory!" A deep voice called out to me as he approached me.

"Wyatt..." My voice was but a whisper, before darkness overwhelmed me.

A/N:

Sorry for the long wait guys, but here it is! This chapter is a little intense but it shows why Ivory doesn't speak or want to be noticed.

Hope you liked it! :)
