.... { " People scare me. " }
A long and exhausted breath escaped my numb lips and a light mist appeared into the chilly air. My loose jacket clung to my goose bump covered skin as I hugged my waist for warmth. I stood behind the door, hiding from the few kids that were in there, waiting outside for them to leave so I could have my appointment. The counsellor's office was a separate building from the school, located far away from the rest. I don't know why, but I guessed it was so nobody could see who needed to be supported.
I've always thought counselling was stupid, but my parents seemed to think it would help me with my social anxiety.
Finally, after waiting outside for what felt like hours, the kids left. The two girls walked straight past me, not noticing my small figure behind the door, and as they did, they shivered at the sudden winds that hit them. Mr. Lucas, my counsellor, stepped out of the room and peered around the door. His face loosened when he saw me there, like he knew I would be hiding behind the door and his thin lips twitched into a small smile. "Ivory Clementine, come on in."
I gave him a short nod before entering the room quickly with my head lowered. Once I entered, I was immediately greeted with warm air and the inviting scent of lavender. I sat down in the chair opposite Mr. Lucas. He took out a folder and a pen and clasped his hands together and faced me. "So, Ivory, I believe this is your tenth appointment with me, correct?"
I only nodded as an answer, my hands already starting to shake. "Okay then, let's get started." He fiddled his pen between his thick fingers before pulling the lid off the top and rested it against the paper. "How has your week been?" His question came out casually, but even so, I couldn't speak.
I stared at him blankly in silence and he sighed. "Ivory, we've had ten appointments together and in each one you haven't uttered a single word."
My eyes moved away from his concentrated gaze that focused upon me and I began counting how many bricks were on the wall. There was a heavy silence for a while. I counted 47 bricks before Mr. Lucas spoke again. "We're having these appointments for a reason, but I can't help you if you won't talk to me."
I can't be helped, it's pointless.
At this thought, I furrowed my eyebrows together. Yes, we've had ten appointments together, and yes, I haven't uttered a single word in each one, but I can't help that. I wasn't born with the inability to speak, I just chose not to because of who I am. People scare me. Talking to people terrifies me. Nobody has ever heard my voice, except my mother and little brother. I have no friends, they only hurt and betray you in the end. Let's face it, I'm a lost cause.
If Mr. Lucas thinks he can get me to talk, he's up for a huge disappointment.
A/N:
Yay first chapter of Hugs is up! I hope you all like this story as much as you liked Tears (which I couldn't have finished without my amazing supporters). Now that Tears is out of the way, I can start this story.
Hugs, like all my series books, has a meaning in it, just like Tears had the meaning of being happy. But I won't tell you what it is, instead I'll just let you guess :3
Anyways, comment your thoughts and vote if you liked this chapter!! :)
