Alex: "hey baby, I'm almost there. Can't wait to see you!"
You: "see you when you get here!"I put my phone down going back to my bowl of cereal, today marks a month since Alex and I got together. It's a decent relationship, can't complain, but no matter how hard I try I can't get over Evan; not even a little bit.
Evan and Emma's relationship is everywhere I turn. Constantly pictures of them smiling or kissing keeps popping up, every single one makes another piece of my heart crack then fall off.
A knock on my door signals that Alex has arrived. I can't keep doing this to him, it's not fair to him. He's too sweet to be with someone who isn't really invested in him. After putting my bowl in the sink I shuffle to the door; dreading what I'm about to do.
Alex stands on my porch flashing his pearly whites, "hey hey baby" his arms lock around me in a bear hug, my arms wrap not as tight around him."Baby you ok? You seem kind of...I don't know, down about something." I open my mouth to answer when his phone rings from the coffee table, I have just enough time to see the ID before he snatches it up in a panicked hurry.
He quickly informs the caller that it isn't a good time right now and that he will call them back later at his earliest convenience. He turns to find I've been glaring daggers in his back the whole time.
"Baby listen she is-"
"Don't even pull that crap Alex. I know what I saw on your ID, so unless your suddenly calling a female member of your family 'love of my life', then I suggest you get the hell out of my house. Now." He opens his mouth to argue then closes it, I hear the front door close behind him then his tires squeal in protest when he books it out of my driveway. I can't believe I was worried about dumping him.*Midnight*
I finish toweling my hair until it's damp, toss the towel in the hamper and slide into bed with my laptop.
Ten minutes into reading my Twitter feed, a message pops up in my Direct Message inbox, @tweetsonurface: "call me. NOW"
Well that doesn't sound good.
He picks up on the second ring. "If I pay for your ticket will you get on a plane tonight and come be with me?"
"What's going on Evan? Are you ok?" Unconsciously I am off the bed, moving about my room stuffing items into my travel bag. "I'll tell you when you get here, I really need you here. Are you coming?"
"Yes babe I'm on my way."
"Thank you babe. I'll pick you up at the airport ok."
"Alright babe."Sitting my bags by the door, I scribble my parents a quick note saying I'll be back asap, that Evan needs me and that I love them.
*L.A.*
I scan the airport for Evan while sipping my cold coffee. After making awkward eye contact with the gentleman two seats over, I finally spot him. My breath catches in my throat as he bobs and weaves his way to me; once he's in front of me he tugs me into a hug, our faces buried in each other's neck, no space between our bodies.
Minutes pass, we just stand holding each other, I could spend forever in his arms.
He pulls away and takes my bag still not saying a word, holding my hand he leads me out of the airport then we slide into a black town car. He finally breaks his silence once we are on the road, "I'm sorry I drug you all the way out here. I just....I didn't want to sleep alone." My brows furrow in confusion, "what? Babe I know you have another reason for bringing me here besides needing a cuddle buddy." In the glow of a passing street lamp I see his eyes are sad, his lips droop in a frown.Pulling my leg up in the seat I pivot my body until I'm facing him, "Evan." His eyes find mine, "what happened?"
"Emma and I broke up."
