A Month Later

Third Person POV:
Unable to go back to her parent's house, even after repairs; Evan and (Y/N) move into Evan's parent's house.

Evan's POV:
"No-stop no! Get away! Evan help me!"

Immediately I'm awake, my hands lock around her wrists as I narrowly miss getting a foot to the crotch.

"Baby it's okay. Baby wake up-it's Evan I'm here baby." She continues to thrash against me while fighting with the nightmare; no matter how much I call out to her.

Somehow she manages to free one of her wrists from my grip and she begins to pummel my bare chest with her fist.

Unable to regain a grasp on the hand that continues beating me, I move to plan B; I carefully but quickly lay my body atop hers, successfully pinning her hands between us, my lips move to her ear, "come back to me baby. Please come back, I need you so much."

I have to blink quickly a few times to see through the tears that threaten to spill. Seeing her like this breaks my heart. The psychiatrist she's been talking to recently says that people who lived through a traumatic event handle their experiences differently, so her way of handling it is beating me to death during a nightmare.

After a few more minutes of fighting she slowly begins to settle down, so I place my hands firmly on the mattress to push myself up away from her. Her (Y/E/C) eyes groggily blink up at me.

"Again?" She whispers nervously. I nod, "yeah baby, again."
She sighs heavily looking away, "how bad?"
"Almost took off my nuts with a foot, you beat my chest like a gorilla. Nothing major." I joke but the look on her face tells me she isn't at all amused.

She looks at me, tears streaming from both corners of her eyes, her lip quivering, "I'm so sorry Evan, you should be able to sleep in a bed without fear that you're going to have bodily harm caused to you. Maybe I should go sleep on the cou-" I shake my head immediately, "you better not finish that sentence. I'm not letting you go anywhere.

She opens her mouth in protest; which I silence with a kiss, "I want you next to me always." I feel her smile against my lips.

*Three Days Later*

"She's doing better Tai, it's just....."
"Just what? Evan it's okay, you can tell me."
"It's just that since the police can't find him anywhere, she can't truly recover. It's hard for her to fall asleep and when she does she's just plagued by so many nightmares that they end up waking her anyways. I don't know how to help her Tai, nothing seems to help."
"I know you must feel so helpless Evan; I'm sorry for that. I'm sorry for her as well, I have no idea what she's going through but I feel for her. All I know to say is just give it time and things will hopefully work out as they are meant."
"Yeah I guess you're right."
"You know it dude." She teases.
"Thanks Tai."
"No problem Ev, that's what I'm here for. If you need me again please don't hesitate to call alright."
"Alright. Talk to you later."
"You too."
"Bye"
"Bye"

I hang up the phone feeling a teensy bit better; until the scream echoes down the stairs.

"Baby?!" The bottom stair gets tangled under my feet in my haste to get to her.

Halfway up she meets me clutching the ratty old towel around her tight, drops of water from her freshly showered hair run down her shoulders and arms to puddle around her feet, her chest heaves with frantic breaths, her eyes wide as saucers.

"Baby what's wrong, are you hurt?!" My hands follow my eyes in skimming her visible skin for signs of damage.
"H-he was in t-the bathroom!" She pants out, my eyes dart to hers instantly, a cold chill of fear races over my body turning my blood to ice. We have been alone all morning; my parents both at work.

"Baby, who was in the bathroom?" I fear I already know her answer. Her frightened eyes glance back up the stairs as if she's afraid she will summon him by saying his name aloud; "Alex".

That single word is enough to replace the ice in my body with fire.

With a grumbled order for her to stay downstairs, I speed around her towards the bathroom; spurred on by my desire to kill Alex.

A stubbed toe and a thorough search later; no sign of Alex is to be had.

Was his being here just in her head?

"Did you find him?" She anxiously watches me as I come down the stairs, handing her the clothes I swiped from my room on the way down.
"Baby, are you sure you saw him? I mean maybe you just saw a shadow or som-"
"I know what I saw Evan. He was standing there sm-smiling at me when I got out. He was th....." She trails off, uncertainty clearly evident on her face.
"I thought I saw him Evan."
"Okay baby I believe you. He's gone now but I'm still going to call the police alright. Just to make sure I didn't miss him somehow.

My arms lock around her, her head tucked in the crook of my neck, her arms pinned between us with her palms pressed against my chest.

I barely catch her mumble against my neck;

"Maybe I'm going crazy."
