Your POV:
Ok, ok, just calm down. Breath. Try to figure this out.I jump four foot in the air when another loud rumble of thunder sounds.
I wonder how much time has passed. Seconds? Minutes? Hours? A creak of floorboards echoes from the hall just outside my bedroom door, where I have locked myself in.
I need a weapon of some sort, but do I dare leave the confines of my room to try and find one?
Deciding I will not sit in fear, I slowly ease open the door; which feels as though I'm moving a ton of lead, then begin my cautious ascent towards the stairs.
On high alert my while body is tensed, my eyes help my ears take in my surroundings; waiting for any misplaced sound or movement to occur.
At the top of the stairs I take a deep hesitant breath before descending down unto the first floor. My heart slams out a nervous rhythm so hard I start to worry he will track my destination by it.
I barely manage to set one foot in the kitchen when the next sound I hear stops everything; my movement, time, my heart, my breathing.
A laugh emits from the darkness of the living room.
Directly behind me.
Taissa's POV:
"Mom, I'm going crazy here! Did you ever get through to the police? Someone needs to do something! She is in trou-no mom I'm not yelling. Ok I'm sorry, it's not you I'm just frustrated and....mom if anything happens to her-ok I'll try to calm down. I love you too."Evan sets the phone on the table in front of him, then proceeds to stare it down as if he looks away he might miss it ring. When he called me earlier in a panic, I instantly came over to try to calm him down.
I scoot closer rubbing his back soothingly, "she's fine Evan. Until someone says otherwise, keep believing that ok."
"That's what I keep telling myself. Over and over, I say it in my head but my heart isn't convinced. I-I can't lose her Tai. If I lose her then I've lost my heart, I'll die." He swallows thickly as the tears fall, I watch their path when they drop then roll along his clasped hands. I pull him into a hug, rocking him gently. We sit like this for only a few minutes before his phone goes off. In a second he's snatching it from the table.
"Hello?"
Your POV:
I clench my teeth together to keep in the scream that's desperately trying to escape when he laughs again. I quickly pivot around making sure my back is safely snug against the counter, before clicking off my flashlight so he can't find me so easy."Don't be scared honey. I'm not going to hurt you-unless you try to fight me." I can hear the threat loud and clear in his tone.
"I just needed to get you alone so I could show you that I'm the better man for you. Not that pathetic, worthless, disgusting, wannabe actor Evan. Who by the way, cannot act at all. He isn't the man you need." His voice has grown slightly louder; he's getting closer. As he keeps talking about how awful he thinks Evan is; I cautiously begin to sidle along the counter towards the knife drawer.
My hand circles the handle, slowly I ease it open slightly, when I suddenly find myself slammed into the closest wall to my left.
My lungs deflate painfully upon impact, the hand clutching my throat restricts any attempt I make to pull in more air, instantly my eyes are bombarded with light; blinding me momentarily.
When I'm able to regain focus, that's when I see the boogeyman of my current nightmare.
Evan's POV:
"Hello?"
"Evan, they are finally starting the removal of the tree, so I should be able to get through soon hopefully. I keep calling the cops son, but still can't get through. I'm not giving up though ok-and neither should you."
"Thank you mom. I'm trying but I just keep feeling like something is majorly wrong. I don't want to just sit here doing nothing. I'm coming home."
"I'm not going to even attempt to argue. Just be safe, keep calm, I love you."
"Love you too mom."My next call is to the airport.
I'm on the next red eye flight out.
Your POV:
His grip on my throat releases allowing me to suck in harsh, deep breaths."Don't scream. If you scream it won't end well."
A shiver of disgust rattles through me when his lips graze my cheek, leaving a cold wet trail in their wake.
"Mmm you know I'm better for you in every way. I'm here now, it's all going to be better."
What the hell does he mean by that exactly?
