*Midnight*

Evan's POV:
"Evan, we are going to see about getting a room at the hotel down the road. Do you or Taissa want to come with us? We promise to come back first thing tomorrow morning, that way you won't have to be away from her for too long. Plus you need the rest."

Her mothers concerned eyes plead with me to go with them, but I can't bring myself to leave her; not even for a minute.

"I appreciate the offer. Taissa will probably want to go, but I want to stay here. Thank you though." Something about my face must tell her I won't argue, because she plants a soft kiss to my hair on their way out.

Taissa texts me thirty minutes later to let me know they checked in, to text her if I need anything or if there is any change with (Y/N)'s condition.

I shoot her a quick 'thank you, ok I will and sweet dreams.' reply before dozing off.

Some time later I'm awakened by the sound of a squeaky cart rolling past her room.

Yawning, I stretch into a sitting position, then focus my attention to where I expect to find (Y/N) sleeping peacefully; instead I'm met by the horrific sight of Alex plunging his knife deep into her lifeless body, her empty eyes watch me as he repeatedly rams the knife into her chest.

Jerking awake I manage to slam my head against the wall, bust my funny bone against the chair arm and startle the poor nurse checking (Y/N)'s vitals, all simultaneously.

"S-orry. Didn't mean to scare ya." I mumble rubbing my funny bone.
"It's no problem dear, you seemed to be resting fitfully just before you awoke. Bad dream?" She smiles sympathetically.
"Horrible nightmare doesn't even begin to cover it." I chuckle humorlessly.

She finishes her check then heads for the door, stopping next to me, "I have to check on two more patients but when I'm finished I'll bring you something to eat."

I open my mouth to argue, then close it again, not able to tell her no.

"Thank you, I'd appreciate that."
"No problem honey." She pats my arm as she disappears into the hall.

Making sure (Y/N) is sleeping soundly, I pop into the bathroom to splash water on my face. Just before I flick off the light I catch a glimpse of my face in the mirror.

"Holy hell Evan you look awful." I scold to my reflection, then exit the bathroom only to be met with her (Y/E/C) eyes.

"Baby" I cautiously take a step forward, she just blinks at me a few times, I notice the shimmer of a tear as it trickles down her cheek.

"Are you real?" She whispers. I pick up my shattered heart along with the chair and sit beside her, I start to reach for her hand but stop for fear of scaring her.

"Y-yes I'm real baby. Oh my god it's so damn good to hear your voice I-"
"Why won't you touch me?" Her question catches me off guard, her (Y/E/C) eyes well with more tears as they search mine.
"I'm just afraid of scaring you baby that's all."

Her reply is her trembling hand reaching towards mine, I quickly capture hers and kiss each knuckle.

"I almost lost you again-for good this time." Holding her hand against my cheek, I have to look away as my emotion chokes me. Hearing the words aloud hurt way worse than in my own head.

"Evan look at me please." Swallowing hard to calm myself, I slowly move my eyes back to hers, she takes the hand I'm holding and twists until she is holding mine instead, then guides it to her chest.

"It's still beating; just for you."

*A Week Later*

"Slowly now-"
"Evan if you say "slowly now" one more time I will not hesitate to crutch you to death."

I bite my lip to keep quiet, her parents laugh as we help her into the wheelchair. We finally get to take her out of here; granted she's rolling out instead of walking, but at least she's getting out alive.

Her final diagnosis ended up being: sprained ankle, cuts, bruises, a few bruised ribs, and a swollen black eye. The swelling of her eye has reduced back to normal, the bruise is slowly fading.

"Let's get you ho-well someplace that's not a hospital." Her dad blushes embarrassed.
"So you have the treehouse nice and ready for us to move into then?" She giggles slightly causing her parents to roll their eyes, "no smart-ass, we actually are staying in the hotel until we can find a place to rent while we wait for the house to be fixed...." Her mother trails off gauging her daughters reaction.

She only nods but I can see her worried expression. I start around behind her to push her chair when her hand grabs mine, keeping me beside her as we finally make our way to the elevators.
