It was December 31, 2015. There were only 40 minutes left before the year 2016 finally arrived. I went to this festival with my special friend Laura. We were both in the 7th grade at the time.

We've been friends for so long. I knew her since I was in kindergarten. I've always been fond of her ever since we were young. This was the perfect time to tell her about how I felt. I couldn't hold it any longer. I needed to tell her.

"Come quickly!" I said. "The fireworks show is about to start! Chop chop!" I rushed through the crowd as fast as I could.

"Slow down Toby! I can't keep up with you!" said Laura. "I'm wearing heels! Why do you make me go to these gatherings?"

"Your complaints are gonna have to wait until we see the fireworks display. So I'm not going to listen to your whining for a while." I replied sarcastically.

We ran through the crowd as fast we could even though Laura was whining like a hungry pig. We both made it just in time for the fireworks display.

The fireworks show began just in time.

"Wow! It's so beautiful." I said. "Hey Laura! You've gotta see this!"

Laura quickly got to where I was standing and she watched the colorful explosions in the sky with me.

"Yeah, it sure is pretty." said Laura .

"Happy New Year, Laura Blair."

I look passionately into her eyes. She's so beautiful. This is my chance.

"A happy new year to you as well, Toby Jameson." Laura gloomingly says.

I didn't get to tell her because she looked so gloomy all of a sudden.

"What's the matter? You don't look so good." I asked.

"I'm fine Toby, I'm just really glad that you're here with me." said Laura.

"Look who's getting all feminine all of a sudden" I jokingly said.

"Oh shut up!" She said. She sounded annoyed by me.

"Hey Laura, can I walk you home after the fireworks show? I really want to talk to you."

"Sure. I have something to tell you as well." Laura sounded very serious.

I walked her home while we were talking about the fireworks show we just went to. It was 12:30 am. I still have my chance.

"Can you believe how awesome the fireworks were?" I said enthusiastically. "Its like watching huge colorful bubblegums explode in the sky!"

"Yeah, it sure was pretty." She said.
She sighed and I quickly noticed.

"Is there something wrong Laura?" I asked. "You've been really acting strange since the show."

Laura begins to tear up.

"Laura? Why are you crying all of a sudden? Did I do something that upset you?" I asked her.

"No, its just." Laura says as she cries heavily.

"What is it? Tell me." I said.
