Just Keep Moving (Leo Valdez x reader)

Chapter 2

Leo's POV

I woke up feeling groggy and like my head was stuffed with clouds. "Where am I?" I slurred, rubbing my eyes and taking in my surroundings. I was in a small tent and in a sleeping bag. I tried sitting up, but whimpered in pain from my leg and sunk back down. The events from yesterday flooded into my mind. This girl must be the demigod Chiron was looking for! I managed to sit up a bit and undo the sleeping bag to see that my leg was bandaged up, and that my tool belt and bag were gone. In that moment of panic I tried jumping up again, only to have my legs crumpled underneath me.

"Having trouble there, Hammerhead?" The girl said sarcastically as she came into the tent. I grinned at the nickname, but I felt my face slacken as I took in her looks. She had beautiful h/l, h/c hair and e/c eyes that seemed to sparkle. "You okay, Flameboy?" she asked, raising an eyebrow at me.

"I uhh... y-yeah! Of course why wouldn't I be? Haha..." I stuttered. Smooth move Valdez! Oh gods you are such an idiot! I mentally scolded myself. Her eyes widened in surprise as she looked at me. Before I could ask why she spoke up.

"Maybe cause your hair is on fire?" She questioned, still trying to be witty even though she looked a bit startled.

"Wha-Oh! Sorry!" I replied, sheepishly patting out the flames. The two of us sank into a slightly awkward, but not unpleasant silence for a few moments.

"We're leaving for Camp Half-Blood in a couple minutes, here's your stuff." She stated gruffly, handing me my bag and tool belt. She refused to meet my eyes.

"Can you at least tell me you name?" I asked trying to get at least some information out of her. She paused for a moment, as if appraising me.

"Y/N L/N." She stated at last, before turning around and exiting the tent without another word.. I took some nectar out of my bag and drank it to help heal my leg before we started walking. Leaning back, I closed my eyes, accidently dozing off.

Your POV

I walked out of the tent and organized my bag. Then I searched around through the woods looking for a walking stick that would support Leo's weight. I found one that looked big enough and walked back towards the tent. I stepped inside it to see Leo fast asleep again. "Really Leo?" I sighed. Better check on his leg. I thought to myself, kneeling down and unwrapping the gauze. What I saw made my jaw drop, it was completely healed! I traced the quickly fading scar with my finger, causing Leo to softly mumble in his sleep. I blushed and shook my head. What's gotten into you, Y/N! You're just using him to get to the camp your mom wanted you to go to. Then you can forget he even exists and he'll forget about you. I did my best to reinforce these thoughts, although it wasn't working as well as I hoped. I shifted Leo over a bit and laid down next to him, slipping into another nightmare.

"Mom! Please you have to come with me! I can't leave you! Please..." My voice came out high pitched like it did when I was younger. I didn't run this time, I was frozen in place as the giant dog thing attacked her. Blood was everywhere, I couldn't breathe. I felt something warm wrap around me and the dream faded to inky darkness.

Leo's POV

"Mom! Please... Come with me! ...can't leave you!" I heard someone yell. I woke up instantly. Y/N was shaking and crying in her sleep. "Please..." she cried out again. I wrapped my arms around her, trying to calm her down.

"Todo estará bien." (Everything will be ok) I whispered softly into her ear as she relaxed into my arms. Oh gods what have I gotten myself into? I thought to myself as she smiled in her sleep. I fell asleep soon after, knowing I was going to regret this when she woke up.

We must have been asleep for a few hours before I was slapped in the face. "Keep your hands off me Valdez!" Y/N yelled, still half asleep. She crossed her arms and glared at me.

"No regrets!" I replied, a signature smirk plastered onto my face.

"Just get me to camp." I could Y/N was starting to tolerate me, the venom in her voice started to fade. I pretended to stretch and rested my arm almost on top of hers. She's been without people for so long, she needs to readjust to contact somehow. That sounds like a good reason, right? I'll save that one as an excuse for Jason.

"I'm not taking you there until you apologize for slapping my beautiful face." I whined, pouting. Indecision flashed in her eyes for a mere moment, but she quickly regained her composure.

"Listen Valdez. Your either taking me to camp NOW or I knock you unconscious again and leave you for the monsters." She growled, the tone of her voice was suddenly cold as ice. Holy Hera! I really screwed up this time! At least she looks cute when she's mad... Wait what? Stop it! Bad Leo!  I scolded myself. "I'm taking your silence as an you're on your own Y/N. True shocker there." She said bitterly and stepped towards me.

"No! I'll take you! I was just thinking about... something." I said. Please don't ask what! Please don't ask what!  I raised my hands up innocently.

"What were you thinking about?" She asked, still glaring at me. Dam! That's just my luck! 

"Just umm... thinking about how great it's gonna be to have a girl as powerful as you at camp!" I lied, giving her a convincing smile.

"If you say so..." Y/N seemed very suspicious, but thankfully didn't question me any further on the topic.

"Let's go and get a head start!" I changed the subject, unwilling to have my thoughts probed at any longer.

"Leo, it must be around four in the morning. We are not going now." Y/N said. "I can see you're tired too, just sleep in the tent and I'll spent the night outside ." She added, yawning afterwards.

"No you're sleeping in the tent." I said and before she could argue I grabbed her by the shoulders and led her to the sleeping bag. "Night Y/n! Sleep well." I said before quickly exiting the tent. I heard a soft: "Goodnight, Hothead." and then some snores. Soon I drifted off in front of the tent, knowing that in a few hours I would have to get up again.
