Perfectly Broken

Nico's POV

I could sense it. As soon as she died I felt my stomach drop like I had just fallen off Olympus.

It had been a sort of normal day. Who am I kidding? It's never normal here. I had been uncomfortably aware of my surroundings since Will had hugged me yesterday. I decided that today seemed like a good time to check up on Jason, Piper, and Leo.

I collapsed in the middle of the Arena where Clarisse and I had been sparring seconds before. Her death was a painful one, tearing through me like a shock wave. I gritted my teeth and let a scream of agony to try and release the pain.

Once I reached Jason's Cabin, I knocked tentatively at the door. For a few moments it seemed like nobody was going to answer before the door quietly cracked open. "Nico!" Jason gave me a weak smile, before opening the door wider. "Come in, but stay quiet." He whispered. I nodded in response, slightly confused.

I was shaking violently as the pain came to a sudden halt. I choked on tears as medics came rushing to my side. It was a struggle to breathe and my heart was pounding so fast and hard I was sure I was going to die along with her. Will was instantly trying to calm me down and question me at the same time. I couldn't understand a word he was saying. It was like I had suddenly lost all my senses and it was terrifying.

Following Jason I walked into Cabin #1 and saw Piper sitting tiredly on Jason's bed, head leaned back against the wall. She waved and smiled slightly when she saw me. Waving back, I looked around the room for Leo. He was unconscious on the bed across from Piper. I shot Jason a worried glance. "He was up all night. He just fell asleep an hour ago." Jason gestured over at Leo, who upon closer inspection I realised, had tear stained cheeks and an unkept look about him.

After being force-fed nectar, I started to calm down enough to make sense of what was going on. At some point I had been moved to the infirmary, Clarisse was anxiously leaning up against a wall nearby, and about three Apollo kids were right by my side. One of which, of course, was Will. "What happened, Nico?" He asked in a calm voice, handing me a glass of water that I quickly pushed away. "She-Will- it's her oh gods Will!" I burried my face into my hands in frustration at my own shaky voice and inability to state the truth when it mattered most.

"How is Y/N anyway?" I asked, staring at Leo's limp form. "Not good. Actually pretty damn shitty and there's nothing we can do until Bacch-Dionysus gets back." Fire flashed in Jason's eyes, as if he wanted to go up to Olympus himself and drag Dionysus back down to help. "Interrupting their meeting would be a death wish, you know that right? Trust me, I'm the son of death." I joked weakly. Jason cracked a smile which quickly melted into another frown. "Have you tried having Piper use charmspeak on her?" I asked. "Not yet," Jason said, more to himself than to me. "she needs to be at full strength for it to be effective enough." We both looked over at Piper's now snoring form. Jason quickly crossed the room and covered her with a blanket. "You should go, Nico. It's getting close to lunch anyways. I'll see you later." Jason said, turning around again to fully tuck in Piper and check on Leo's condition. Without another word, I slipped through the door.

"Who is it, Nico?" Will coaxed gently. "Y/N, Will! She-She..." The whole room seemed to freeze and stare at me intently. As if hoping that for once the son of death had good news to bring them. "She's gone, Will..." My voice practically died out as I sat, shaking with the effort of controlling the flood of emotions raging in my chest. Through my blurry vision I saw Will stiffen. "Go check on Y/N. Now." Will ordered his siblings as he stayed by my side. The two of us not speaking, but both hoping I was wrong and knowing I was right.

I went to the Pavilion and grabbed a plate, shoving some french fries into the fire as a sacrifice to my dad. I left the Hades table empty and took my now usual spot at the Apollo table. "How's Leo doing?" Will askes a few minutes later as he sat down next to me. "Pretty badly." I said bitterly. "Can't we ever catch a break?" Will let my phrase sink in before replying with a slightly defeated "Obviously not." We are in silence for the rest of the meal. "You busy today?" I asked him before we left. "Yeah, full shift at the infirmary today." Seeing my crestfallen expression he quickly added, "I heard Clarisse was look for someone to spar with in the Arena though."

"Thanks Will, see you soon." I responded, waving as he smiled and started heading in the opposite direction me. For some reason a bad feeling was growing in my stomach. I decided to ignore it for now. I entered the Arena and challenged Clarisse to a fight. We withdrew our blades and fought until...

I could sense it. As soon as she died I felt my stomach drop like I had just fallen off Olympus.

A/N: Hi guys! *Grins and waves at angry mob* So what did you guys think? Part two for this is coming soon. If you were confused the italics were what was happening in the future (after Nico starts to spar with Clarisse) and the normal font was the events leading up to it. I'll also (mostly likely) be coming up with a happy ending after this too so don't worry. Thanks for reading!
