I turned the page of the book, extremely intrigued with what was going to happen next. Yes, this was a book for children, but I never read it before! And frankly I wanna know if all 5 monkeys are dumb enough to jump on the bed and break their head.

"1 more monkey jumped on the bed." I began, holding up my pointer finger. Jamie seemed bored with the story, not even saying the words with me. I mean I did dig it out of the back of his book case, but that couldn't mean it was that old.

"He fell down, and bumped his head. Momma called the doctor and the doctor said?" I asked Jamie, gesturing for him to finish off the line.

"All your children are idiots and now you gon' be broke after you pay for their procedures."

I frowned, rolling my eyes and shutting the book. He may have made the joke funnier, but that was no reason to ruin a perfectly good story. It's not like the author intended for people to read it to their probably 10 year old half sibling.

"If you hated the book I would have stopped reading it." I huffed, placing the book back where I got it. Jamie gave me a lopsided smile.

"Aw you guys are getting along?" Mom asked. She ruffled Jamie's hair and pressed a kiss against my hairline. Jamie and I nodded, looking at each other temporarily.

"Well breakfast is downstairs so last one there is a rotten egg!"

And there's no way I'm gonna be no rotten egg.

I sprinted out of the room, Jamie following not far behind me. Our laughter along with a few screams of lines such as 'your cheating' and 'I'm winning' filled the halls.

This was what I needed. A day where I could relax and have no worries. A day where I could feel what it would have been like to have a normal family.

Jamie and Mom are honestly one of the best things to ever happen to me. Heck, the Haddock family was the best thing that's ever happened to me. I'm not sure who I would be without them. Probably an aimless girl looking for where she fits in the world.

"And the winner is-"

I couldn't believe it.

Sitting there, smiling smugly at me from his place on the couch was Jamie. Now you tell me, when on earth did he pass me out? I could have sworn this whole time I was in the lead! This child must have forged through the wall or something.

I can't believe I'm such a sore loser...

"Are you gonna cwy like a wittle baby?" The devil's spawn teased, pinching my cheeks when I sat down to eat my breakfast bar. I made sure not to make eye contact as I looked at everything but him. Wasn't exactly easy considering I just wanted to sit there and stare him down with the look that clearly says I'm gonna kill you.

"So I saw this video." Mom started, standing in front of us and swirling her hot chocolate with a spoon. Wait a minute why didn't I get any!?

Okay okay that's beyond the point queen of greedy town.
