Evelyn's POV
Ever since Mason stalked away from me after my idiot comment two days ago he has been avoiding me like the plague. All I've managed to catch of him is his cologne as he would make a mad dash another corridor at school. Or he wouldn't come home until he knew I was very well busy in my own study, then would be gone before breakfast in the morning.
It was starting to tick me off. I knew Mr. Lloyd was counting on me, so was my reputation! Of all the students I tutored over the years of high school all of them have aced their subject. I was basically the golden student in the eyes of teachers.
It was now lunch and I was spending it hidden in an empty classroom trying my hardest to concentrate on teaching Brent about math formulas. Though his charming smile always short circuited my mind and I think he knew it. Groaning I purposely looked down at the textbook.
"Brent, we need to finish this page at least!"
His chuckle made my heart flutter.
"I know, but you just amuse me. You won't even look at me" he said, leaning into the table. I knew he was expectedly staring at me. Peering through my head I locked eyes with him. His warm eyes lightening as he graced me with another one of his precious smiles. Before he could witness my cheeks becoming tomatoes I looked back down.
He only laughed again.
"How about we just catch up with this tonight? Let's say the café again. 5pm? After baseball practice?" He asked, now gaining my full attention. He was already packing his books into his backpack. I glanced at the clock on the wall behind him before grinning.
"Sure, but you're gonna have to buy me a chocolate brownie this time. My time is precious you know" I teased, tucking my long hair behind my ears.
"I think I can live with that" he said sticking out his hand.
Placing my small one in his large warm ones, I shook his hand before hesitating to take it out. It felt really nice.
"Well I got to go to my locker and dump this weight, so I'll you tonight okay?" he asked, standing up to leave. I nodded my eagerly at him. Wincing at I probably looked just too eager. Silently laughing to himself he gave me another smile before leaving the room. Thank goodness he did. My poor cheeks were now boiling to the temperature of the sun.
What is this boy doing to me?
--------
"Move it short squat" I heard before being shoved aside for his tall build.
Silently sending a thank you to the builders of this school for not having concrete walls I saved myself any serious injuries.
"Hey jerk! Come back here!" and with that I was off sprinting behind him, though with his much larger legs than mine he proved to be faster. But I had a trick up my hand. Forcing myself to speed up just a little bit more, I used all my strength to leap forward onto his back. Obviously catching him by surprise he fell forward at the sudden weight and toppled us both onto the grass fields of our school.
Hearing a groan underneath me I opened my eyes. Mason was rubbing his eyes while I lay flat on top of him.
"Get off me psycho" he growled out. Narrowing my eyes at him I jumped off his back and stood up, dusting off the grass and dirt on my jeans.
"What the hell is your problems Mills?" he yelled, facing down at me. His expression dangerous. Maybe tackling him wasn't the best option.
"What do you mean Key? You've been avoiding me for two days! Then you just barged into me! I think the tackle was appropriate!" I yelled back, stepping closer into his face, my anger eyes meeting his.
He narrowed his eyes on me, glaring, "Your absolutely mental. This is why I didn't want you as a tutor! We'd kill each other before I learnt anything!"
Seething we both held our grounds, staring.
"Well this looks slightly intimidating" Brent muttered from behind me. "Before you guys set each other ablaze with your looks, I'm going to have to step in. Mason take a chill pill and head to practice" Brent suggested, moving beside him and giving him a slap on the back.
Grunting, he stayed in place, his eyes never leaving my own.
Awkwardly sighing Brent moved to my side. Grabbing onto my arm he lightly tugged resulting me to shuffle towards him. Looking between Brent's face and his hand attached onto my arm I couldn't help a slight blush. Dammit. Seconds ago I was just about to silently murder Mason and now I'm blushing like a little school girl.
"Brent let go of her now" Mason muttered out once again, his eyes trained onto our contact point.
Brent was quick to let go, letting out an uncomfortable sound before backing away from me. Snapping my head back at Mason I narrowed my eyes at him.
"You have no say in who can and cannot touch me" I pressed. Ignoring the slight chuckle from Brent behind us.
Mason now seemed uncomfortable. Great. Controlling Man pig.
"When you decide that failing will do you no good, YOU can come and find ME" I spat, fed up with the whole ordeal, spinning around to leave. Giving a sympathetic smile at Brent I left, my mood still not simmering down much.
He honestly wanted me to kill him. Otherwise he wouldn't be acting like such a jerk. It could of all been avoided if Mason was a normal human being and understood that at one point in time we'll have to converse. Much to our discomfort, at least I was the more mature one. He on the other hand found it easier to run away from me whenever I came in his sight.
Great, not only do I have to live with him I now need to tutor him. More time wasted with him.
Why. Me.
