The trip to school this morning was bitter sweet knowing that it was the route I decided to take instead of the one with my parents. The morning air was chilly today and the chances of rain was promising as dark clouds made themselves existent in the sky. It seemed to be a gloomy day. It was perfect. I strived for days like this, the sloshing of the winds and rain mixed relaxed me, made me forget about my problems and griefs.
The diminished crowds of the school made it obvious that a large amount of people pulled a 'sickie' to avoid the upcoming storming, taking refuge in their pyjamas and couch. Breathing in the cold air, I entered the school building. Making my way through the still large crowd in the hallways, I reached my locker, slightly relieved.
Opening it, I emerged myself into finding and collecting all the materials needed for the next two periods, only barely glancing at the body that leaned against the neighbouring lockers to mine.
"So this weekend I was thinking we could have a movie marathon. I need a break from studying my brain to sleep" he stated, putting another handful of chips into his mouth. Smiling in thought, I closed my locker, mimicking his actions and leaning.
"Well, I guess I could do with a distraction, we don't have any tests next week anyway" I said quickly remembering my schedule for next week. "Yeah I'm done for it, who's house?" I asked just as the bell to start the school day rang.
Both ignoring the sound we watched as the hallways quickly and surely drained of its students.
"Well, I'll be having Jonah's team mates over all weekend for 'intense' training" Nick said, sounding slightly bothered having ten fourteen year olds filling the small capacity of this house.
Nodding my head in understanding, I grinned at him. "Well my house then" I said, motioning us to start walking to first period together, English.
"Uh, Evie, you do remember your house falling into the depths of non-existence right?" he asked jokingly. Rolling my eyes, I poked my tongue out at him.
"No Nick, I completely forgot. For the past few weeks I have living in the debris of my ruined house, pretending its silhouette still lingers at night" I continued the joke, watching his shoulders shake as his laughed filled the almost empty hallway. Calming down, he threw his arm over my shoulder shaking his head.
"I guess we'll be dinning with the Key's tonight"
The rest of the day went by smoothly, classes boring yet informative. Lunch breaks filled with jokes, laugher and sarcastic remarks by my trio. Though one thing did brighten my day, I had bypassed Brent in the hallways and he brushed his hand against mine, his actions purposeful but to the eyes of the student body it seemed accidental in a busy crowd.
Biology was uneventful, Mr. Lloyd only glancing into Mason's and I direction once... every ten minutes.
"So, I'm all packed, ready to head to yours?" Nick asked, plopping himself against the lockers beside mine once again. I wouldn't be surprised if the owners complained soon from the permanent indents he was leaving.
Closing my locker and facing him, I let myself pounder, "Don't you have to go home and pack your things for tonight?" I asked confused. He gave me a cheeky grin before pulling me in the direction of the students parking lot.
"Would it be weird if I admitted I already had my things packed last night?" he asked, giving me a sly side-ways grin. I managed to let out a sort of strangled cat sound before removing myself away from him.
"You already knew we were going to be staying at my house?" I asked incredulous.
He shrugged his shoulders, unlocking the doors to his car. "I knew because it was the only option we had since Keely is off hacking into the government this weekend" he filled me in sliding into the driver's seat, I followed his actions. I shook my head at him peering outside the window as other students filled into their own cars.
"Fine, the truth is that I'm actually a wizard and can predict the future" he admitted, starting the car while giving me his infamous cute grin. Unable to hold back my smile, "I knew it all along" I muttered, turning the radio station up as we settled into a comfortable silence.
We had set up in the living room to be the perfect fort to binge on TV. Popcorn, bags of candy and bottles of soft drinks littered the living room table. After getting the go-ahead from Mrs. Key we had dug into the goods while starting to watch American Horror Story: Hotel.
"For Fuc-!" Nick started before stopping at my glare. "C'mon! swearing it deemed appropriately after watching fifteen minutes of this episode! My poor innocent eyes!" he yelled dramatically before pulling me with him into the puddle of blankets on the ground. Laughing, I pushed him off before kneeling, to stand up.
"Who the fuck's car is parked in my spot?" Mason demanded storming into the house. Grimacing, I turned my head in the direction of a very unimpressed Mason. His school bag comfortable in the curves of his back while a large sports bag occupied his shoulder. He looked roughed up from training.
"How come he can swear?" Nick whispered, munching on some popcorn. Rolling my eyes at the blonde boy, I turned my head back in the young Key's direction. His head snapping in my direction, no doubt from hearing an unfamiliar male's voice in his house.
"What the hell are you doing Mills?" he spat, striding into the living and taking in the mess of the room. Glaring at Nick who was too busy stuffing his face with the bowls full of popcorn and chocolate. That boy ate everything and anything, it's honestly hard to believe he wasn't fat. How I envied a male's metabolism.
"Isn't it obvious?" I asked him rhetorically, arm spread out with a blank face. "It's a sleepover, invites only. I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave" I told him, ushering him out of the room careful not to touch him. He obeyed, allowing me to move him out but I could tell his temper levels were slowly rising, if his rapid breathing wasn't a clear indicator.
"It's my house Mills" he told me, scarily calm. Ignoring his state, I nodded my head. Even though he was staring angrily down at me, his mind seemed to be dwindling else where.
"Yes, I understand. But I also understand your mum mentioning you having training till late tonight, so I decided to use the unoccupied house tonight. So have fun at training" I told him with a sweet fake smile plastered on my face before turning my back on him and walking coolly back into the fort. I didn't feel the need to converse with Mason Key any longer.
I heard slow deliberately loud breaths before a pair of heavy feet stormed upstairs to his room, followed by a slamming door. He was most likely going to be leaving the house soon anyways for more practice.
"The dudes got anger issues" Nick inspected, glancing at me in mild interest. His attention still solely on devouring all the food.
"So where were we?" I asked, settling down on the ground beside him, stealing the bowl of popcorn from his hands.
Laughing, he laid against the couch, "We were about to watch a victim crawl out from inside the bed."
