MASON'S POV
This morning was not going the way I thought it would. Considering Evie just waltzed into my bedroom just when Kristy and I began having some more fun.
Only to scream and run back into the bathroom. I didn't even hear her coming in until she yelled, making me lift my head up in shock and knock it against the head rest. A pounding headache now stayed in place all morning.
I kicked Kristy out of the house after the incident and just laid in bed in uncomfortable pain. Looking at the clock I realised it was already nearly lunch. I had been drifting in and out of consciousness from the lack of sleep I had last night due to Evie once again.
I groaned realising I have missed out on the maths quiz and will probably have to stay back after school to catch up.
Having endured enough pain for the morning I carefully pulled myself up. Wincing as the pain intensified with every movement. I picked up my car keys from beside me, muttering out a few curse words as I nearly drop them.
I make my way downstairs knowing full well that we ran out of medicine last week. It was very rare that a Key was sick. We were the optimum of health.
The drive to the mall was worsening the pain. My eyes barely focusing. I was thankful the streets had died down as everyone had seemed to be at work or busy in buildings. I parked my car in the closet spot to the entrance as possible. Taking my sweet damn time to make sure I don't worsen the throbbing.
I thanked the lucky stars as I finally saw the store come into view. Walking in I was brought into relief as the noise was much quieter in here than out in the open. Though the blinding white lights triggered my headache.
Hurriedly yet cautiously I made my way to the back, ignoring the blatant stares of the female population.
I scanned the counter looking for a worker in the white lab coat yet came across someone else.
Evelyn stood right in the middle of the desk, leaning against it staring straight back at me. Her eyes blank and expressionless.
I walked closer to her still frame. Glaring at her with newfound blame.
"Mas-"
"Dammit Evelyn, don't you know how to knock? I hit my head because of your scream and so now I'm pretty sure I've got a concussion or worse, I'm dying" I seethed out staring down at her the pain worsening.
"Is that why you have a big black bruise on your forehead?" She questioned, a faint smile present on her lips.
I quickly bring my hands to my head to check for a bruise only to wince in incredible pain. I sucked in my breath closing my eyes. The reflective glare of the lights killing me.
"Hey Evie I found your pill-" I heard a male voice out before trailing off. I squinted my eyes open just in time to see Evelyn glare at him and snatch the bottle out of his hands and stuff it in a shopping bag. Curiosity was eating at me but the pain made me forget everything and anything that was on my mind.
"Scott! I think he has a concussion, he's going to faint!" I heard a panicked female voice yell, the sound of it surprisingly not worsening my headache.
I could feel myself being grabbed and pulled, though with my eyes still shut closed I couldn't tell you where I was going or who I was with anymore.
I could feel myself being settled onto the ground my back leaning against a hard surface. I groaned, my hand reaching my head in frustration.
"Mason"
"Mason, listen I need you to breathe in steadily. Ignore the pounding in your head and focus on my voice"
"Focus on my voice okay?"
"Take a deep calming breathe, yes good. Now do a few more of those... perfect"
The voice was soothing against the rattling in my head.
"Keep taking deep breathes, we don't meed your asthma to play up too"
I mentally nodded with her. She was right.
Mid breathing I felt soft small hands reaching around my face. Startled I opened my eyes, blinking a few times to adjust my eyes to the suddenly dull environment.
I stared straight into her eyes with the sunglasses still on. The head splitting ache still ringing.
Evie had was now in my face, instructing me on how to breathe. I followed her movements, breathing in slow breathes, I could start to feel my heart beat slow down though it seems the pain in my head won't ease off.
"Evie, it doesn't look like he has a concussion... or is dying" I heard the male voice chuckle. I don't know if he saw it but I directed a glare at him.
"But I'm pretty sure he now has a migraine. Which isn't any better. I suggest taking him home and drink lots of fluids. Basically let him become one with the couch."
I heard her laugh. Is she really being amused while I was on the floor with my head about to explode?
They continued on with small chatter, by ears barely catching their conversation with the pounding in my head. Until I felt myself being lifted up with two pairs of hands.
I felt small gentler ones grabbing onto my right side as the other pair dissappeared.
"Thanks Scott! I'll see you next week" I winced at her loud voice beside me.
"Opps sorry"
I grunted in response. Migraines were not my friend and never have been or will be.
"Mason I need your car keys" she stopped us just outside the mall, the lack of aircon justified my statement.
I squinted my eyes open, even though my head protested and stared down at her dishevelled frame.
"You are not driving my baby" I firmly stated.
"Yes I am"
"No"
"Mason don't make me do something you'll regret"
"Evelyn you are not going to drive my car and that is- Oh my god. Stop! Give them back!" I yelled. Groaning as my eyes shut closed tightly.
She had taken off my sunglasses exposing me back to the glare of daylight. Horrible.
"Give me the keys and I'll give you back the glasses" she persisted.
I grumbled out inaudible swears before grabbing my keys from my jeans pocket and chucking them at her. The sun was just too strong today.
"Your relentless" I seethed as she gave me back the sunnies. Even with my eyes still shut I could feel her smiling.
"Don't pull the brake too hard, make sure you have two hands on the wheel at all times. Don't skid the tires, no you can't honk the horn. Evelyn stop messing around with the aircon, I don't want my feet to freeze... or my butt to burn" I sighed feeling the headache worsening with the sight of her in the drivers seat.
We haven't even left the carpark yet and she was making me nervous just sitting there. I should of just drove blind. It would of been more consolidating.
"Mason I do know how to drive. Chillax we'll get there in one piece"
