Then... Then tell me what I should do! I want her back! I need her back!" I practically screamed at him.
"There is only one thing I can tell you. Leona is alive, I assure you of that. How to get her back, I do not know." he calmly said back.
"How do you not know?!"
"She was taken by Karma, was she not?"
"Y-yeah..." I calmed down a bit.
"I do not have any information on Karma. The only thing I know about them is that the leader has made deals with me. And that, is all I can tell you. Goodbye, Nikki Renolds," he, as always, snapped his fingers. Flames started forming around me, and I mean literal flames! One of them burned my hand, "Ow! N-now, wait just one freaking minute!" but it was too late, the flames covered me like a dome, so I closed my eyes, not sure if he was killing me or not.
When the heat from the fire went away, I opened my eyes again. I was back in the room with our sleeping bags. Back to the harsh reality that I would probably never get my sister back. That I would never get to see her again. For the first time in forever, I did something I've almost never done. I cried. I cried and cried for what felt like forever.
My knees gave in again, but I didn't want to get up. I hugged and held on tightly to Leo's sleeping bag, it being the closest thing to her I had left. I kept shaking and the waterworks just kept on coming. That's when I heard people walking around at the entrance, "Uhg, how many more of these stupid buildings do we have to inspect?" one said in a whiney voice.
"About 29, then we're done. Stop complaining, you big baby." They both sounded like children.
"I'm not a baby!"
"Then stop acting like one. Besides, we get paid for this, and Uncle Ben is coming over for the banquette supper tonight. So just get through the hard labor, then you get rewarded for it later. Okay?"
"All right..."
"Okay, check upstairs, I'll get downstairs here."
"No way, I'll take downstairs, there's no way I'm climbing that creepy staircase!"
"God, you really are a baby. Fine." the older sounding one started climbing the stairs, and the other started looking around. I immediately got up and looked for somewhere to hide. Behind a wall, in a closet, anywhere that would work. I saw a little door leading inside the stair case and waited till the little one wasn't looking for me to sneak inside it. Opening the door made a small squeaking noise, and I knew the kid heard it since they stuttered out a scared "Wh-who's there?"
I quietly closed the door and was only in there for a few seconds before I noticed a horrifying smell. It smelt like a rotten corpse had a child with a skunk and it was ugly. I plugged my nose and tried holding my breath, but then I started to black out from the lack of oxygen. I decided to suck it up and took a few breaths, then tried to look for a light switch, or a string to pull. I finally found a metal-bead string hanging from the ceiling. I pulled on it and the light turned on.
I looked at the ground and found the source of the smell. Once I saw it, I instantly screamed.
