Chapter 18

Conrad's POV

It Has already been two days since we played the game of ditch and even since then I haven't had a good time to ask her but I think tonight will be the perfect time to do it. It's the Fourth of July and everyone always goes out on the lake to watch the fireworks, well the kids do. The parents mostly stay on shore and light them off. I would stay and do that but there is a better view on the lake and it gets pretty boring. All though Nick happens to think it's the coolest thing ever. And every year he has to do it or we won't hear the end of it, so I won't have to worry about him interrupting me.

I know what your thinking, this shouldn't be a big deal, Just ask her out. And I know it shouldn't be either, but for some reason asking Jenni is making me very nervous. I've asked girls out before but I think the reason I'm so nervous is because this time I have to worry about her saying no and going for my stupid cousin Nick.

Just then Jenni walked up to me. I was playing basketball on the court. I was getting every shot. The only reason that happens is I don't have my mind focused on what I'm doing so it just.. happens.

"Hey, nice shot!" Jenni said grabbing an extra basketball out of the metal basket on the side of the court.

"Oh yeah thanks." I didn't make another shot because I knew I would miss since I was out of my daze and she was watching. So I just held it under my arm. "So, are you excited about tonight?"

"What's happening tonight?" I gave her a look like 'are you serious?' but I still had a grin on my face. "That's not what I meant, obviously I know what is tonight but is there supposed to be something special going on or something?"

Ohh she doesn't know!! Now I can make up a story about how I want the night to go. This way I know that no one can interrupt us. "Well, there's sort of this tradition, and I know it might be awkward, but for the fourth of July a guy asks a girl to take a boat out to the lake where you watch the fireworks together."

"Are you serious?" She said chuckling a little at the whole idea.

"Yeah I know it's kind of dumb but everyone does it, it's a tradition. We came up with the whole thing a couple years ago." I said I liked the way my lie was working out. I was starting to believe it and I know she definitely was. Plus, it's not a bad idea we should actually start this. In fact I'm going to tell all the other guys to do it too. "Yeah last year was girls ask guys and I was stuck with Steven's younger sister." I said cringing.

At that she bust out laughing. "Oh my gosh, that's hilarious!! How old is she?" She said still laughing but holding it in so she could hear my answer.

"She was just going into 7th grade so almost 13." I couldn't even finish saying 'almost 13' because Jenni was laughing so hard she was practically rolling on the ground... She wasn't but she was close. "It's mostly a teenager thing. The adults stay and light off the fireworks and the kids bring chairs down and sit by the shore."

She finally started catching her breath. "So who are you going to ask this year?"

"Well, there's not many girls around here soo I was thinking of asking you." I said looking confident as I said it but totally casual.

"Yeah that would be fun." She said right away.

"Okay good so I will just come by your camper later then."

"Yup that's good." She gave me a smile and then picked up the basketball and threw it at me. Everything was back to normal and we started playing P-I-G.

Okay, step two. I have to tell the rest of the guys about my plan. I know it will be simple for them because there are plenty of girls over at their campground. I lied when I said there weren't many girls around here but I just wanted her to go with me.
