"Jade..." Jacob begun, not really sure how to introduce himself to a daughter he had never known he had,

"Sorry, I should have wrote a letter first but I didn't know what to write and... Connie's nice, she told me to stay and wait for you but I...

"Come here," he uttered, hugging the girl tightly, "I'm sorry," he uttered, "I didn't know about you... If I had I would have helped bring you up... I just didn't know.."

They spent the afternoon talking outside, they had both agreed to DNA testing to make sure he really was her father, but they could both see the similarities between them.

"Can I drive you home?" He asked, "or to a station at least "

She nodded, "the train station would be good..."

He nodded, "so, I'll see you in two weeks..."

"With Connie?"

Jacob smiled, "with Connie..."

He sat down against the sofa and exhaled, his head spinning with everything that had happened that day. He smiled as Grace ran in and jumped onto the sofa next to him, Connie's arms looping around his neck as she kissed his cheek, "I love you," she whispered quietly, smiling as she watched Grace flick on the tv as she leaned against Jacob,

"I'm making a drink, do you want anything? Beer? Wine?"

He winked at her, "beer."

She lay with her head on his lap as he stroked her hair softly and told her about his conversation with his daughter,

Connie stayed silent and moved so that she sat with her legs over the sofa,

"What's the matter?" He asked gently, placing a hand on her back,

"I had a check up yesterday after work," she shrugged, "and..." She fell silent and he kissed her temple gently,

"You can tell me anything you know..."

She exhaled, "we've never spoken about children but..." She shrugged, "well... After the accident, They told me yesterday that I won't be able to give birth or carry a child again... They said it would be too dangerous and if I'm honest the thought of more children never really crossed my mind... But it just made it all a bit final... And you, I don't even know how you feel about children and I thought what if you want something I can't give you... I don't want to lose you too..."

"Look at me..." He asked her firmly, turning her to face him and watching as her eyes met his own.

"I'm sorry," he told her gently, "I admit that the thought of never having a child with you makes me a bit sad... But I have you, and I have Grace, and now Jade and..." He smiled, "I have everything I ever dreamed of because of you..."

He pulled her into him as she sobbed against his chest, "why isn't anything ever easy," she uttered and his heart broke for her, for the way she cried so delicately against him,

He pulled her so she lay on his chest and held her until he felt her regain some control of her breathing,

"I'm sorry... Today was supposed to be about you... You have a daughter," she smiled, "she seems nice..."

He nodded before explaining about the DNA test they would carry out the following week, "I thought that once we have the results we could tell Grace..."

She nodded, "I think she'd like that.
