The devil's voice is

sweet to hear.

When I feel her movement in my arms, I breathe lightly into her hair, still between awake and asleep.

            "Morning doll."

            "Morning trash bag."

My eye sockets fly open, but my skull is held between two hands. We're still zipped up in my jacket, but somehow he turned himself around. He smiles, ruby eyes staring at me. I grab her wrists (being gently as I can) and lock my grip. I won't let him take her from me again.

"Relax, trash bag. I'm just here to chit chat." He speaks softly.

"Don't care. Leave Frisk alone." I growl.

He stares at me, the smile on his face suggesting that I've missed the punchline to a really good joke.

"Gaster. Sans. Listen." Those names make my grip tighten on her wrists. "I know how to get you two back, alive and separate. I know how to get Sans back to Frisk." His words spoken in a whisper.

I look away, finding Flowey a little ways away from us. His head is bow, and I realize it's in sleep. I guess the soulless can rest.

"Listen to me, Gaster, Sans. I know how much Frisk means to you, especially Sans. Don't you want to have her for your own? Don't you want her to love you fully and without pain and regret? You're still hurting her by existing like this."

My eye sockets slowly make their way back to Frisk's face, but it's not her. It's the demon.

"You need to shut up. Before I make you." I tell him.

"Do you think this is fair to Frisk?" He asks suddenly, red eyes filling my vision. I stay silent.

He continues, his smile growing. "Do you think you can just love her love this? Do you think it's okay to torture her like this? It's not, Gaster, Sans. You're hurting her, but Frisk lets you. Because she cares more about other people's happiness then her own."

I stare at him, my mouth trying to work but something goes wrong.

"You get it, don't you? You know what you're doing. You know that you're hurting her."

He waits again, and I managed to say, "She said she loves me."

The smile is sweet, sympathetic, comforting a lost child. "Do you really believe she loves you, G? Do you really think she's over Sans?"

My teeth snap together with a soft click. Chara's smile widens.

"I know how to let her really love you. For both of you to be free, and whole again." His words smooth and promising.

That's what she's wanted all along. Sans. Not me. Not some freak. Not some combination. No. Just Sans. But I can only trust Chara as far as I can throw him.

            "You're lying." I try.

He clicks her tongue. "Now, Gaster, Sans. I'm just trying to help Frisk out here. She can't go on like this, and that would lead to horrible things for me. This body isn't my own after all, and if she were to kill herself... Well, that would be game over for both of us." He lets out a harsh laugh.

She can't go on like this...

Of course she can't. How could she live her whole life loving a second rate imposter?

The ruby eyes wait hungrily for my next words.

"What do I need to do?" I speak.

His smile is much too wide. "Oh, it's simple, easy really. You just have to be Determined enough."
