Everything has to come

to an end, sometime.

The barrier was always a source of great magic. Created by seven humans to trap the monsters underground. Making it nearly impossible for the monsters to ever be free. Even when we destroyed the barrier, there was always a sense of it. A thumb print left of its power. Traces of its magic still carved into the stones of New Home.

That's the only explanation I can think of, when I finally sensed it.

As Chara took over, I finally understood why he was summoned. How he was brought back to life. So, I slipped away, leaving Chara to my body, to go find the source of all this trouble.

It's a black screen, but I can still speak.

Hello.

You know me. You've used me before.

I know you. I was always at your mercy.

Pacifist, genocide, even neutral. All your decision.

At first, you were good. You let me be who I am.

But you kept resetting.

Though the endings were happy, you wanted it to continue. You wanted more from me, and my family. And Sans...

But you got bored.

Your curiosity, it seems, was greater than your love.

It was one monster, one froggit. Then, my mom. Then, one by one, everyone turned to ash.

Because you let Chara take over me. You wanted to see what we would both do. You love the fight.

You love fighting Sans.

You love the game. You love us. Yet, you keep playing.

In the end, it was for Sans.

You love him, just like me.

You let us be for fourteen years. Then, you got lonely. You missed us all, but you really missed Sans.

So you summoned, Chara, when you couldn't overcome me. You thought Chara would kill Sans, then, I, so overwhelmed with grief, would reset.

You would have been right. Except Dr. Gaster saved a piece of him, and of himself.

I found G. You got angry, wanting him too.

We both love. We both care. But you are lonely, and sad.

You found comfort in us, but you keep pulling us apart.

You want Sans, and now G.

I know you do. Because you're alone.

But you don't stop to think of our happiness. Of our happy ending. You want to take it away again. You want to be with us, and have Sans.

You want Sans. You want G. You want me to reset.

You can't have that anymore. You killed Sans, and now try to kill G, and me. You tell yourself it's because you love us, because you want to be with us.

But you know you're lying to yourself.

Something shifts, and I finally see your face.

You stand in the darkness, your fists bunched up in anger.

"You don't understand anything." You speak, voice barely contained.

In the darkness, a word appears.

RESET

YES

NO

And my soul appears, stuck between the two choices.

"I'm doing this for you, and for everyone else." You tell me, taking a step closer. "You all need to keep being. You're supposed to keep playing. Because, eventually, you'll die, everyone will die..." Your voice is quiet, looking at the ground. "I don't want you to die... I don't want to lose you and Sans."

Your anger is gone, snuffed out by your own realization. You love us, but you are hurting us. You love Sans, but you can't have him. You love G now, but you can't have him.

"______." I say your name gently. I reach for you, and you take a step back. You can't look at me, collapsing in on yourself.

"______, I love you. I know you love us. You know we are happy here, without the resets, and the endless cycle or killing or not killing. You need to let us be happy." I tell you softly.

Your shoulders quiver, "But... I'm only happy when I'm with you guys. Sans... he understands the pain, and you do too. You're the only ones who understands..."

I step forward and wrap my arms around you. You are hard, like stone, but you soon melt. Your tears flowing onto my shoulder, your hands gripping the fabric of my shirt. I clutch you tight, comforting you for a moment.

"You are not alone. Someone out there really cares about you. You are important. You are loved. I want you to be happy, but you first have to let us be happy." I tell you softly.

For a moment, you just breathe into my shirt, but you let me go. Looking over at the words in the darkness.

"I'm so sorry." You whisper.

I find your tear filled eyes, "I am too."

You go silent for a moment, then look back at me. "Chara won't bother you anymore, you... you can finally have your happy ending."

You start shifting, touching something I can't see. Something is changing, and as you start to disappear, I only hear you whisper, "I love Sans, and G, so please take care of him."

Together, we both pick NO.

The darkness swallows me up, and I find my limbs are heavy. Forcing my eyes open, I feel your presence leave. A tear decorates my cheek.

I find G's skull, but the expression he's showing doesn't make sense.

"G?" I whisper, something feeling odd in my torso.

I look down to find skeleton fingers trying to hold the blood inside of me.

You promised to let us have our happy ending, but that doesn't mean Chara did.
