Chapter 9- Dream Walker

Lane starred at the eyes in front of him. They seemed to see everything. Everything.
Lane didn't move, he was to intrigued to look away.

Jinx backed away, letting him get a full look at her.
Her skin had got slightly darker and two black and red scaled leather wings with holes and tears in them were attached to her back. A dark green tail swayed behind her, it was paper thin but could possibly kill in one whip and on the end was a 'U' shape. Her horns were the most fascinating, two small ones near her scalp that resembled candy corn, and two bigger ones closer to her ears that had the same 'U' shape as her tail on the top of them. They looked liked a two point pitchfork. All four were dark green as well.

Lane had to look at it all again. He noticed that her nails had got longer and pointier. For a moment Lane couldn't think of anything to say.

"So you don't trust Angels?" Lane asked. "Because your their counterpart?"

Jinx nodded.

"You do realize I knew. I was going to ask when you woke up."

Jinx looked at him questioningly.

"You weren't breathing. Only the undead don't breath."

Jinx looked confused for a moment.

"Echo asked if dark elves needed to breath. So I made up some story to keep your secret." Lane said, laying back on the bed. "You said you didn't trust Angels, and I respected that. Besides Echo would've just used you to get through the gates, then killed you."

Jinx nodded, her eyes fixed on her bare feet.

"But." Lane added, "I would like to run some tests on you, in secret of course."

Jinx shot a glare at him like he was insane.

"I pretty much just saved your immortality back there. The least you could do was let me take a few blood samples, judge some reactions, and do some experimenting..." Lane said, looking at the ceiling. He knew better then to take his eyes off a demon, but he felt comfortable enough to take his eyes off Jinx. Lane was going to have to trust her, even more so since they'd be in the same room all night.

After a moment, Jinx nodded and moved to sit on the other bed. Lane heard the motion and instinctively looked over at her. He barely got to see the nod of agreement.

"Great! I'll go grab your clothes." Lane said jumping up and half running over to the door. "And please change back, I don't want you hurt." Then he was gone.

Jinx changed back, but kept her eyes the same. She liked seeing the room brighter. Every little detail. Jinx looked at the pillow on the bed, she could see the faded outlines from the previous nights it was used. She even smelled everything in the room (she was positive there was a candy stash somewhere).

Jinx laid down on the bed and starred at the ceiling. She willed her tongue to form again. Changing back to herself made it disappear again, and there was no way Jinx was going to creep Lane out anymore by talking in his mind.

Jinx listened to the gentle current just outside. It lured her into a semi sleep.

She dreamt that she was back at home. Looking out over the lava sea and rocketing lava lines. Trying to fly out over them and bend the will of luck to her advantage. But only to be held back by the chains of Hell and Eline.
