Chapter 12- Morphed.

Jinx walked over to the window. She glanced back at Lane, who was sleeping on the couch. He'd left her mind awhile ago, so she was free to think again. It was hard to leave, but she had to find out if Eline was actually there. If she was...things were going to go to hell, and soon.

Jinx opened the window, I creaked slightly, but only slightly. She kept herself alert incase Lane woke up or Lyla came stalking into the room. She leaned out the window and looked around. It was a straight run through the forest, then a sharp right from the cliff ahead. If Jinx ran straight there without stopping, and came straight back, she'd be back before dawn. And hopefully before Lane woke up.

"Jinx...?" Came a voice from behind her.

Jinx looked over her shoulder, seeing Lane sitting up and rubbing his eyes like a little kid. Dam his cuteness.

"Yes?" Her voice was as smooth as honey. Where her eyes showed disobedience, her voice showed kindness and innocence.

"What are you doing?"

"Just getting some fresh air..."

"Demons are weird."

"So are humans..."

Lane smiled and laid back down. Jinx returned her attention to the night sky, blinking with stars. Millions and Billions of them, and she saw every single one. As brightly as they were as if you were to hold one in your hands.

Honestly, Jinx never thought they'd be balls of gas. Her mother always explained them like glitter. Or a tiny spark. All Demons had heightened senses, but Jinx had a better version of them. Where regular demons couldn't see as far at the KeplerBelt, she could see every rock that floated in it. If she wanted to. That's where the "see inside your soul" thing came from. Humans learned if demon's amazing sight and thought that's how they claimed your soul before the Angels. When in reality, Angels took all spirits and sent the ones that they didn't want to Hell. But of course, they never admitted to it.

"I'm sorry that I didn't find anything..." Lane said, interrupting Jinx's thoughts.

"It's fine."

"Can I ask you something?"

Jinx thought about it, then went to sit on the floor in front of Lane. "Sure."

"Why'd you leave even if you knew there was price?"

Jinx half laughed, half sighed. "Because I wanted to prove to them I was strong enough... besides, being a magical creature, I can just make it appear again."

"But why your tongue?"

"Because...I'd already lost everything else."

Lane looked at her sympathetically "I can't imagine going though all that.."

"Neither can I...and it still happened..." Jinx gave a sad smile. "Being demon, you think nothing can bring you down, get in your way. Before all this...I thought demons were the supreme gods and couldn't be touched."

"I thought that too, before Ty met Echo."

"Another thing is...I never knew I would hate it so much when I finally lost...no demon ever wants to lose."

Lane smiled. "Good to know."

Jinx laughed, "you should sleep, it's still pretty late."

Lane nodded, closing his eyes. But didn't stop talking. "Don't you sleep?"

"No. Being undead...it's more like a cold glass of water on really hot day. We don't need it...but it makes us feel alive again."

Lane got up, grabbing Jinx's hand. Then walked into his room. "Mind if I study your sleeping pattern then?"
