Jake.
Why can't I get him out of my mind? Ever since lunch, our moment, if you could even call it that, has been replaying in my mind. No matter what I do and how hard I try I just can't stop thinking about his smile. The smile that was directed at me. I mean... sure I have spoken to him before and he has smiled at me. But never like that. That smile wasn't just to be polite or just to say hello. I don't know what it was though but I do feel like it was something special.
"Emma! Dinner!" my mom calls, ending all thoughts of Jake. Sighing, I walk downstairs to see everyone at the table already.
"Did you have earphones in or something?" Jesse asks.
"No. Why?" I ask furrowing my eyebrows.
"Mom was calling you for ages. We were actually waiting for you," Jesse tells me.
"Oh. Sorry about that," I say taking my seat.
"What were you busy doing?" my mom asks and I feel my cheeks heat up.
"N-nothing," I stutter, my cheeks burning even more.
"If it's nothing then why are you blushing?" Jesse asks and I glare at him. He just smirks so I kick him under that table.
My dad drops his fork and stares at me. "Do you have a boyfriend?"
There's an awkward silence and I just blink at my dad. The silence is broken when Jesse and my mom burst out laughing.
"No dad. I don't have a boyfriend," I answer making Jesse laugh even harder.
"Do I need to ask Cody because I will!" my dad continues sternly and Jesse is practically rolling on the floor laughing.
"Dad I promise I don't have a boyfriend. Can we just carry on eating dinner?" I ask and my dad sighs before nodding.
Dinner carries on as per usual. I eat in silence while Jesse and dad talk about some big game happening this weekend. I find myself zoning out and obviously thoughts of Jake cloud my mind. His eyes, his smile, his-
"EMMA!" my dad shouts causing me to jump out of my seat.
"Yes?" I ask uncertainly.
"You mom asked if she should fetch you and Cody tomorrow or if Laura's going to do it."
"Laura's fetching us. And Cody said I've been invited over for dinner," I say.
"That's good. Because your dad and I have a date," my mom says with a soft smile on her face and I wrinkle my nose.
"Seriously? You guys are old now! You don't have to go on dates anymore," Jesse says pulling a face.
"Would you rather have us fighting?" my dad asks and Jesse just rolls his eyes.
"Honey, you need to leave too. Or invite someone here," my mom tells Jesse as she starts to clear the table.
"I'll just go sleep at Sam's house."
"Should I phone his mom?" she asks walking into the kitchen. Jesse gets up and follows since it's his turn to do the dishes.
This leaves me alone with my dad.
"So how's school been?" he asks me.
"Pretty good. I got a B on this paper I did just because my teacher didn't agree with my opinion but I did pretty well in everything else so I should get an A."
"That's good. What about friends? Made any new ones lately?" he asks with a raised eyebrow.
"Daaaad!" I exclaim and he just laughs.
