"Alright, class! Today's a very exciting day, we're going to do something that no other class has done yet!" My teacher began, "We are going to get pen-pals!"

Oh joy, isn't fifth grade just soo exciting?

She walked to her desk and grabbed some pictures and began passing them out.

"We are going to be writing to some kids in Ireland!" She started again, trying to make it sound way more interesting than it really is, "Every girl in this room will be talking to another girl, and every boy will talk to another boy, except one girl, she will have to talk to a boy. Any volunteers?"

I looked around, absolutely nothing.

Where are the cricket sounds when you need them?

"Well, I guess it'll just be a surprise then!" She said in that voice again.

She got to my seat in the very back row of the classroom, around a bunch of my friends and set my picture down on the corner of my desk.

"Oh! Looks like you are the lucky one!" She said with a smile.

Oh, you soo planned that.

"If I'm the lucky one, where's my prize?" I questioned back, a smug look on my face.

"Oh ha-ha, Miss Parker. Maybe this boy is nice, you won't know until you talk to him."

I looked at it for a bit, he had blonde hair and blue eyes, but his eyebrows were brown-ish, so his hair must be dyed. I flicked my light brown ponytail off my shoulder, sending it to rest down my spine. I turned the card over, Niall was written on the back in messy handwriting.

Oh please don't let that be his writing..

Well, some time passed and throughout that year, I really did talk to that kid, Niall. I even maybe, somewhere deep, deep down enjoyed it, but I guess it wasn't that bad. He seemed sweet, and that's a plus I suppose. And, that was his messy handwriting, so that was a bit of a bummer, but whatever. But after that year, we didn't talk again, and I guess that was that.

"Kaitlyn, hurry up! Are you all packed for tomorrow?" My Mum called out from her spot in the living room.

"Yeah, just about, but I gotta go now, I'll be late to picking up Vanessa and Talia!" I yelled back, grabbing my keys and bag and quickly walking out of my room.

"Okay, have fun!" My Dad chimed in.

"And be safe!" My mother quickly added.

"Alright, bye Mum, bye Dad! Tell everyone else I'll see them, uh, eventually?"

I shut the front door and jogged out to my car. I set my bag in the passenger seat and pulled a tank-top over my bathing suit. I jammed the key in the ignition and it roared to life. Pulling on my seatbelt, I backed out of the driveway. I made the short drive to Talia's and honked the truck's horn outside of her house.

"I'm comin' calm down!" She said as she ran out, pulling her shades over her eyes and climbed in the front seat, moving my bag to the back row of seats, along with her own.

We drove some more until we got to Vanessa's, and I did the same thing- parked and honked at the front window. Well, I bet the neighbors hate me, I mean, I don't blame them. It's like, 7 A.M. and a couple of girls in a truck are honking a car horn. Oops. I suppose it's no too bad, tomorrow I'll be out of the country for a few months and they don't have to deal with me, so, that's good I guess. She hopped in the back row as she pulled her fiery-red hair into some sort of twisty-bun-like thing.
