I helped Niall open the buckets of paint, setting each of them about a foot apart. He left for a few moments to grab a few rags while I finished the initial set up. I stood back, admiring my work.
"You ready?" He asked.
I nodded, an eager smile on my face.
"Okay, so I want some handprints on it, maybe some splatter paint... I'm not sure, we just have to make it awesome," He said, looking over the paper- as if he was imagining the final outcome.
"That's my goal."
I kneeled down to the paint buckets and prepared to dip my hands in.
"Kaitlyn!"
"What?"
"Roll up your sleeves, or take of the plaid over shirt, you're going to get paint all over it," He told me.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
I looked down at it and unbuttoned it, walking over to the door to put it on a coat rack so I'll see it when I leave. I walked back and resumed my previous position, putting my left hand into the lime green and my right hand into the light blue. I smiled, moving my fingers in the paint. I lifted my hand, waiting for the excess to drip off. Once it did, I walked on my knees to the edge of the paper and pressed my hands to it, leaning over- which caused my hair to fall around my face. I straightened my back, shaking my head to move my honey-colored locks out of the way. I lifted my hands off the paper and looked at it.
Cool.
I smiled and looked at Niall, who was picking up the camera.
I shrieked, "Don't take a picture of me!"
He walked over and got to my level, holding his finger above the button to capture an image.
"I'm warning you," I said with a smile.
And just in that moment, he took it.
"Niall!"
"That's me!"
"Stop!" I lunged towards him, being careful not to get my hand print on anything.
He grabbed the picture out of the camera and stood up, waving it in the air for it to dry. I stood after him, which is harder than it seems without your hands.
"Let me see it at least, Niall."
He looked at it and smiled, "I like this one."
I stood on my tiptoes behind him as he continued to look it over. It was after I spoke, my mouth was still a little bit open and my lips were curled into a slight smile. My hair was still on my shoulders, because I couldn't use my fingers to comb it out of the way.
"It's not that bad..." I mumbled, causing him to smile, "But now I get to take some of you."
He held the camera higher, "Not with your paint hands!"
"Then set the camera down and join me, I'm making art."
I moved back and sat down, my back facing him. I heard the click and turned towards his smiling face.
"Stop doing that..."
He laughed twice- well, it was more of a chuckle, then did as I suggested- dipping his hands into some colors, pressing them on the paper. I continued to use the paint left on my hands, pushing them into random spots on the new make-shift canvas. After a few times, the colors bored me, so I went into the kitchen to wash my hands. I came back into the room and dried them on one of the rags. I grabbed the camera and took a shot of Niall looking intently at his work.
