A/N: I watched my favourite anime character die on Sunday night D': I binged watched seven episodes so I could get it over and done with. I haven't cried so much in ages XD

Anyway here's a new chapter!

Chapter Nineteen

"Are we going to get attacked again?" I ask Mello as kick my legs up onto the sofa, taking up as much room as possible. I lean my head back and look up at Mello, who is sitting next to me on the large sofa. The sofa is hideous, but it's really comfy. He's currently eating a bar of chocolate while reading a magazine.

"I doubt it. Stop worrying. We've moved hideouts, they won't be able to find us." Mello says and flicks my forehead. I murmur an 'ow' and rub the spot he hit.

"If I had something to do I wouldn't worry." I complain and pout like a child. "If I ever got bored when I was with Near he'd just throw a puzzle at me." I notice Mello's eyes narrow and his expression turns cold at the mention of Near. From what I've seen, the two hate each other.

"If it stops you from worrying, the president had something to do with the attacks and he committed suicide." Mello informs me. I stop staring at the ceiling and move my gaze to him. His eyes are still firmly transfixed on the magazine in front of him.

Something about that seems too suspicious. The SPK couldn't find the Mafia's hideout, so why would the president be able to?

I frown and move my gaze back up to the horrible ceiling. I really miss my laptops. I could hack into so many computers and uncover the truth behind the base being attacked.

"You have computers here, right?" I ask. I close my eyes and pray that Mello lets me use the computers that the other Mafia members use.

"Are you blind? There's a laptop in front of me and there are several other computers around the base." Mello snaps, clearly agitated by all the questions I've been asking.

"I know, stupid question. Let me rephrase. Can I use a computer? I can hack into the SPKs computer, I know the security system very well. I'm sure I can hack into the Japanese Taskforce's security too. I did it a lot when L was around." I open my eyes and look at Mello pleadingly, his eyes meet mine and he shakes his head.

"No. Your job is to keep resurrecting criminals and anyone else we ask you to resurrect."

I roll my eyes. "Come on, I can help you beat Near." I offer, hoping that it'll persuade him to change his mind.

"No." He retorts and throws the magazine on the table. He leans his head back onto the sofa. "You could leave traces so that someone can come and rescue you or something."

"I'm not that clumsy!" I say loudly, sitting up from the sofa and swiftly turning to face Mello. I scowl at him.

"L knew you were in his computer." Mello retorts, his face distorting into a frown much like my own, his body moving closer to mine out of anger.

"I did that on purpose! I wanted L to know I was there so he'd talk to me!" I yell defensively. I ball my hands into fists and squeeze my eyes shut. I feel my body start to shake, but I can't tell if it's out of anger or from remembering that I was once in contact with my brother.

"I'm not risking anyone else finding out, and that's final!" Mello snaps, he stands up and abruptly leaves the room, leaving me on my own. My body continues to shake and I let my body cave in on itself. I'm not as strong as I thought. Even after five years.

10th November 2009

I roll over in bed and pull the covers up higher on my body. It's freezing. I roll onto my back and open my eyes, giving up on sleeping. This mattress is so uncomfortable.

BANG!

I jolt up in bed and throw the covers back.

Mello said we wouldn't get raided again. We even moved. How the hell did they find us again!

I grab my Life Note from my desk and shove it under my pyjama top, tucking the material into the bottoms so it won't fall out as I move. I tiptoe over to the door and open it a bit, I peek outside to see the corridor empty. I let out a sigh of relief.

I step back from the door and look around the room for a place to hide, when the door is suddenly thrown open.

A hand grabs my arm, then I'm yanked from my bedroom. I look at the person dragging me, to see a familiar blond.

"Mello!? What's going on?!" Mello drags us through the base, from the way we're going I presume we're heading to the monitor room.

I flinch as several gunshots echo throughout the base and I push my legs to move faster.

"You need to leave!" Mello orders, but continues to drag me up the stairs. "We'll check the monitors and see what the safest way out for you is. I can't risk you being seen and killed by them. They may know that you have the Life Note."

I nod even though he can't see me and I silently follow him.

My breath is coming out in short pants and my heart is racing. I've never been so frightened before. I quickly glance behind me, scared that we're being followed.

"M-Mello? Where's the notebook?" I gasp.

"I don't have it." He says through gritted teeth. "You have the Life Note?"

"Yes."

"Good."

We enter the monitor room and head straight to the screens. I ignore the few dead bodies that are littered on the floor.

"We're the only ones left." Mello concludes after looking at each screen. "There's no way you can leave without getting caught by them. I'm sure they'll kill you." Mello quickly glances at me.

I clutch my stomach and feel for the Life Note, my heart rate slows down slightly when I feel the familiar shape under my shirt. I can't risk dropping it.

There's no doubt these people work for Kira. They must be the Japanese Task Force, the one being run by the fake L.

I look over at Mello and see him holding a remote, my eyes grow wide at realisation. He can blow this place up with a press of a single button.

No. He can't blow us up.

A/N: Vote and comment!

Do you have any ships in this fanfic? I'm curious XD I do ship two characters, but I'm not saying who they are :D

This was originally going to be over 2k words (I'm still writing it as I write this XD), but I decided to split the chapter into two. Even though I normally write chapters of about 5k, but because I update this almost every day I write chapters of about 1k - 1.5k words so I spend less time updating every day, making it possible for me to update this frequently. It takes me hours to write long chapters, a 1k chapter takes me about two hours to write.
