Finally the sun comes up. The three of us stagger out into the sunlight and collapse into the car. Scott drives home because he was the one who had gotten the most sleep. Derek is in the back of the car with my tired body cradled in his arms.

“Well,” Derek sighs, “We did it. We made it through the night.” I nod and bury my face in his chest. His arms wrap around me and hold me close. “I’m so proud of you.” Derek mummers in my ear. I smile and slip off into unconsciousness.

The pack ordered pizza that night. Everything seemed perfect. It all was calm and normal. I stood leaning against the kitchen counter, watching the younger wolves. Suddenly a strong pair or arms was around my waist.

“Hey million dollar baby.” Derek’s soft voice whispered in my ear. I grinned and turned around.

“Huh haven’t heard that one before.” I said in a teasing voice. Derek shrugged, still smiling.

“Thought I would try it out, see how you liked it. Hey can I talk to you outside for a minute?” I looked back at the kids and saw that they were all okay and then I took Derek’s outstretched hand and followed him out the sliding doors, into the night.

The moon shone through the forest, its cold beauty in stark contrast against Derek’s dark hair. I looked at Derek questioningly.

“So what did you want to talk about?” I asked. He seemed to convince himself to start talking. I knew that sharing feelings wasn’t an easy thing for Derek. I felt honored that he was able to open up to me. Finally Derek started to talk.

“Shay, it’s been two and a half months since I have known you. And I know that we’ve only been dating a month and half. But I love you Shay. I love you so much,” I sucked in a breath at that. The last person to have said that had been my mother, “And I can wait for as long as you need but Shay you’re the one. And I wanted to ask…. Will you, Shay Carter marry me?” I almost fell over when he said that. I loved Derek. I loved him with all my heart.

“Oh my god Derek…. Yes. YES! I’ll marry you.” Derek took my hands and took a box out of his pocket. Slowly he opened the lid. The moonlight caught the gorgeous diamond ring sitting in the center of red velvet. I gasped as Derek slipped the cool silver metal on my ring finger.

We stood out on the deck for a while. Derek had his arms wrapped around me and held me close to him. We stood like that, together, entwined. It had felt right the first time and it felt right now.

I know it's really short but i personally think it's great! There will be a final chapter and epilouge after that and then it's over! So sad :( I have loved writing this story. If anyone has any suggestions my inbox is always open!
