Sam and Dean joined Jenny and I on her porch and we all headed inside. I put Claire down and she ran to her room to go play. We sat down in her kitchen. Sam was good with kids so I sent him in to talk with Claire while Dean and I questioned Jenny. Dean cleared his throat and clasped his hands together on top of the table.
"Do you remember anything, Jenny?" Dean asked with concern in his eyes. His brow was scrunch up. Something he does when he's concerned or concentrating. Jenny shook her head.
"I remember John going outside after hearing a woman scream from our front yard. I only blinked and he was gone." She was trying not to cry. Her lip quivered a bit.
"Jenny, we think this might be a wendigo." Dean said.
"What is that?" A look of confusion spread across her face, tears brimming her eyes.
"Well," Dean cleared his throat again. "A wendigo is a creature who once used to be a man, more specifically an Indian who got lost from his tribe. And as you know, people need to eat. So he would start out eating leaves and berries he could find then he would progress to animals such as birds or rabbits. Then he would move onto bigger animals like deer and bears. And over time he would get hungrier and hungrier until he started eating humans like campers or hikers. And they sleep for years on end so they don't starve. All of this is why they can mimic and human voice perfectly and why they can move so fast." Dean explain. Jenny looked petrified.
"Does that mean John has been-"
"No, no," I put my hands up on the table. "See, wendigos will store their food so they don't ever run out. They'll keep them alive for days, maybe even weeks. John has a high survival rate. I just hope he doesn't make it angry." I explained.
