I stared out over the balcony of my house. The small town was littered with lights, illuminating the soldiers patrolling the streets. A few stars shone in the night sky.  We had won several battles, but the impending war was still to come. But this time, when the aliens attacked, we'd be ready.

5 years ago I was offered the role of being a junior leader of the Second Mass with my boyfriend Ben. I took the role and then just 2 years ago Weaver had gone missing on a mission. Ben's father Tom had promoted Ben and I to both be leaders of the Second Mass, including Tom.

One of Weavers main goals was to destroy the aliens. He had a more attack strategy, however with that out of mind Tom, Ben and I decided to make a town for the few surviving humans. A town so far away from anything that the Skitters never even thought to look there. It took us the full 2 years to make all the houses and buildings, farm sufficient crops and cattle for survival, make a large hidden underground bunker to accommodate for if the Skitters somehow had found us and most of all, give the people a good life. These times where harsh, life wasn't easy but the people of The Second Mass now had a somewhat good life. The children had a school with a small playground. A large hospital that could take thousands of patients We had even built social meeting places for adults.

It was the time for the humans to take back whats ours. Although it may seem like we're giving up, we had an elite force planning and plotting daily on how to beat the aliens. We were making progress, we had a mole with aliens who was feeding us new plans regularly.

'Hey!'  a solider screamed yelling at me and interrupting my thoughts.

My heart filled with dread, had the Skitters somehow figured out that we where hidden in the Alaskan mountains.

'Emma look at the sky,' the solider yelled again.

I looked up and gasped, however not in horror, in awe. The sky was full of colored lights, Aurora Borealis. I turned to wake up Ben who was quietly sleeping in our bed, however he was already awake.

He stood beside me and slid a hand around my waist, placing a kiss on my neck, 'Beautiful, isn't it'.

I didn't take me eyes off the light show, but just nodded. As if the scene couldn't get any more beautiful but snowflakes began to fall slowly from the sky. I turned to Ben.

'This is our Earth, not theirs. All they want to do is destroy, they can't see the beauty right in front of them. This Earth is a wonderful, spectacular place. I've had 22 years on this planet and yet it never ceases to surprise me. We need to fight for it,' I said.

'We will babe, we will. But we have to wait for the right day, right now our forces are growing by the day. But you know we deserve to have a normal life too, so,' Ben started as he got down on one knee and pulled a ring from out of his pocket, 'Will you marry me?'

I screamed yes louder than I had ever screamed before. My heart felt like it was going to explode with fireworks. The day that we beat the aliens will come, but it 's not yet. When the day does come we will show them who's boss. And they will never, ever come back to our planet.
