Chapter 9

Inside the reception office was a very nervous aura. I sat against a wall while everyone else memorised a map of the hospital. I felt like puking, suddenly my brave act seemed dumb. Hal saw me and went on the wall next to me.
'Battle jitters, everyone gets em. You look cold here,' he sad tossing me a thick coat from a box. Hal was right, my thin black jumper didn't seem to be doing the job. I murmured my thanks to him and slipped the camo jacket on.
Tom handed out guns to everyone and Hal showed me where to hide extra ammo.
'Alright I want Dai, Anthony and Jimmy out front guarding. If we hear one shot we get out ASAP. Hal, Emma, Karen and I will be going in, in groups of two so we aren't heard. Emma your with me. When we get Ben and as many other kids that we can get outta here we put them in the truck and drive,' Tom said, as if on cue Anne and Lourdes came inside, 'Dr Glass and Lourdes will be in the chemistry lab where you are to take the harnessed kids straight away so they can de-harness them'.
Anne nodded. Lourdes slumped over to Hal and I. She took my hand and pressed something cold into my dirty palm.
'Take my half of the necklace, right now you need all the luck you can get,' she whispered into my ear.
'No Lourdes please keep it,' I said.
'No chance Green, I won't take no as an answer. I prayed for twenty minutes for you so I ain't gonna let you die,' she smirked.
I rolled my eyes and clipped the necklace onto my neck, 'Fine'.
After Anne had talked to Tom she walked over to me and kissed my forehead. She was pale and looked very worries for me.
'Be safe Emma. Have you got your first aid kit?'.
'Yep. Anne don't worry, I know that I'll be fine,' I said.
'I know,' she grimaced, not believing it.
Hal smiled at us and gestured for me to follow the others out into the black, unknown night.
