'Hey Emma wake up,' Lourdes said.
I stretched and groaned, 'What time is it?'.
'No clue but breakfast is ready,' she said.
We both got changed and climbed out of the tent that was our home for weeks. Lourdes and I had decorated it with flowers and pictures and pretty much anything we could find so it looked nice though. We walked through the temporary camp to the eating area. Alice, a nice woman with orange hair, gave us both a bowl of oatmeal and we sat down at a table with Anne, Tom, Matt (Toms son who is like 8 years old), Hal, Karen and Captain Weaver. Captain Weaver is the leader of the Second Mass. He has a ponytail or shoulder length grey hair and is a very good leader. I grimaced at Lourdes. She has the biggest crush on Hal and seeing Karen and Hal laugh made her sad
'Oi Spike girl are you sure you aren't a spy,' A solider asked.
I ignored him and ate the sloppy food.
'Don't worry about him Emma,' Lourdes said.
'I don't it's just, well I guess I really like being here and they might do something to get me out of here,' I said.
'We won't let that happen, Anne and I won't let that happen,' Tom promised.
Anne smiled at Tom, I think that they'd be a good couple.
'Emma I will chuck em outta da Second Mass if dey even try to hurt you,' Captain Weaver said.
After we finished eating Karen and Hal left to go scout around camp and Matt left for school.
'Alright guys we have to go check up on those patients with the flu,' Anne said.
Tom waved goodbye to Anne and us but mainly it was for Anne. Weaver and Tom talked about tactics and needing more food.
Anne, Lourdes and I walked to the medical shed.
'Tom likes you Anne,' Lourdes said in a teasing tone.
Anne went red, 'No he doesn't'.
'You sure coz it looked like he was checking you out,' I said.
'Seriously, It's an alien apocalypse and you're talking about this. Come on I think Harry is getting worse,' Anne said.
Lourdes and I smiled at each other and set out to work, checking up on patients with flu and bandaging wounded soldiers. After four hours someone started yelling in the centre of camp, it was Hal. We sprinted out, kicking gravel as we did so. We finally arrived to where he was yelling.
'Mechs, about three, six clicks away and there are seven skitters and a group of harnessed kids. We need to get moving,' he yelled.
'Yes pack up all your belongings, we need to get moving,' Karen shouted.
In the distance I heard the groaning of a mech, a piercing scream and the rapid fire of a mech's bullets.
