Ally's POV:

I walked into school Monday morning with Austin, as usual. Girls called his name and stopped to talk to him, as usual. But today, Cassidy was waiting in the crowd of girls.

"Austin, I think we should talk," she said, squeezing in between him and I. I almost hit a wall from how hard she pushed me to stand by him.

I muttered an 'ow' that no one heard or noticed.

Ever sense her and Austin broke up, she's stopped doing that kind of stuff to me, but she's slowly easing herself back into it.

People flooded the halls, and her shove had gotten me flailing in front of many people, temporarily blocking their way.

I scanned the crowd, having a difficult time because of my shortness, finally finding Austin's blonde hair bobbing as he walked about a quarter mile ahead of me.

There's no way of catching up.

Cassidy has won again.

Suddenly I spotted Allyson, the girl who's friends with Dallas. I quickly ran up to her. "Hey!" She smiled.

"Hey, listen, I uh-"

"Look, I know, you wanna finally talk to Dallas. Now's your chance!" She exclaimed all bubbly, winking, not even allowing room for me to fit another word in. She stepped to the side revealing Dallas, whom I hadn't even noticed was standing there.

I turned to tell her that wasn't what I had wanted to say at all, but she was gone. It was just Dallas and I alone in a hall.

A month ago, I would've loved this, but now, I'm not feeling it.

"Hey, Ally," he greeted. He knew my name. Wait, he knew my name?!

Ok, maybe I am feeling it a little bit.

"Hey," I answered, immediately wanting to slap myself for sounding so nervous.

"So, not trying to sound creepy or anything but I've heard about you, and I think you're pretty," he said in an adorably deep voice.

I blushed.

Still like him. Diffidently for sure like him.

"T-Thanks," I gushed, not knowing what else to say.

Austin's POV:

I stood at the bottom of the stairs with Cassidy explaining to me how much her mom loved me and wanted us back together, when I saw Ally with a guy. And not just any guy. Dallas.

I started watching intently, shutting out Cassidy's constant blabbering.

Ally was blushing, Dallas was looking at her all googly-eyed.

No.

No no no no no.

It took everything in me not to go up to him and explain that she's off limits.

But then I remembered that Ally's been crushing on him sense 6th grade, and I couldn't do that to her.

I had to look away to stop myself from yelling something or punching the guy in the face.

And I'm not even a violent person.

She'll probably be gushing to me about it later, how "amazing" and "adorable" that boy is. And I'll have to just take it like I don't care, when I really really do.

-later that night-

"Oh my gosh, he's just so gorgeous. I can't even talk straight around him!" Ally gushed to my mom while they sat at the kitchen table. I was getting a glass of water.

"Sounds like he likes you too," my mom smiled, before looking at me and shaking her head, without Ally noticing.

"You think so? What do I do tomorrow? Do I talk to him again or wait for him to come to me? This is so hard!" She sighed.

"You know, I like finding someone who doesn't make me extremely uncomfortable," I pitched in, taking a sip of my water.

Ally turned to me. "Austin, it's a process. You know that," she explained.

Yeah, I do know that. I just don't want her with him.

"I'm just saying. Find a guy that really cares about you," I suggested, then trying to think of the last time I mentioned that I cared about her. Should I do it more often? Hmmm....

"We'll find out who Dallas cares about soon enough," my mom said, settling it.
