I woke up in the middle of the night. I was relieved when the cause wasn't because of a nightmare but because my damn phone kept ringing. Slipping on a long tee shirt, I grabbed it and carefully walked out of my bedroom as Donovan slept peacefully in his naked glorious self. It was a block number but I picked it up anyways. They had called me eight times already.
"Hello?"
"Emery?" Vincent sounded out of breath which made me wary. Instantly, I was awake.
"What's wrong?" I asked him. The pants coming from him were scaring me. All of a sudden, I heard a gunshot. My body jumped at the noise as I gripped onto my phone tighter. Oh no!
"Where's Don?" I let out a sigh when I realized the gunshot wasn't for him. I clenched onto my chest.
"He's sleeping. What happened? What's wrong?" I questioned him as I paced back and forth. All of a sudden, I felt Donovan wrap an arm around my waist.
"Let me talk to him," Vincent demanded. Shaking my head, I handed Donovan the phone as I wrapped my arms around myself. Donovan first raised an eyebrow in question but once he placed the phone around his ear, his body stilled and his eyes were wide awake now.
"What do you mean- okay I guess so but this was too soon- Is Pierce with you?- fuck!" I stepped back because of his tone. Donovan hung up the phone before placing it hard on the counter and letting out curses as he ran a hand through his hair.
"What's wrong?" I inquired. Donovan stood silently before his eyes bore into mine. He was looking at me but it felt more like he was looking through me. My hand reached up to rub his arm and he just gazed at me.
"Baby, what's wrong?" I whispered against his shoulder as I leaned into him. I could feel how hot his skin was and the beating of his heart as my palm was placed above it.
"I have to leave." I froze. Before I was going to tell him no, I stopped myself. Family was always first for him and I accepted that. They've been my only family for as long as possible now and if he didn't leave, things could change and it'd be my fault.
"Go," I said to him softly.
"Emery-" I placed my finger on his lips and shook my head.
"Go. Your brothers need you and you'll always find me, right? Come on. Get out of here," I said as I smiled lightly at him. He stared at me in awe before his lips kissed my cheek and then slowly took my lips. It was a long and heart-filled kiss. Then I watched him walk out the door but for some reason, I was afraid. What ever was happening with Vincent and Pierce, Donovan was going to go right into it. So I closed my eyes and wished for their safety.
I couldn't go back to sleep. It was five in the morning now and I stared anxiously at my phone. It has been two hours since he has been gone and not a single call or text. My feet paced against my apartment floor as I couldn't stop thinking of all the terrible things that could have happened to them. They're okay. They're going to be okay.. I ran towards my phone when I heard it ring.
"Hello?"
"Em," Donavan sighed. I closed my eyes and let out a deep breath for the confirmation that he was okay. Alive.
