I was shocked. I gaped at the sight before me as I felt this strange ache forming in my chest. He didn't pull her away. Why wasn't he pulling her away? I mean why would he? He was single and she was hot. I turned towards his brothers to see their eyebrows pulled in confusion and they looked at me. I just smiled at them and shrugged my shoulders as if it was nothing. It's just Donovan.
God, I wanted to cry.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Our quarterback Donovan Saint and his lady Danica Robertson!" The crowd cheered again and she pulled away from him to glance back at me. I couldn't breathe as I felt Vincent and Pierce staring at me as if they were worried.
"I'm going to go on a walk. Catch up with you guys later, alright?" I said to the both of them before I stood up immediately and walked through people's legs to get the hell out of here. This is stupid. I just had a crush on him that barely meant anything if I confessed it.
So why did it hurt so much then?
I was walking down the streets as the darkness was consuming the night by now. Al I needed was to get my mind off of that kiss and this was the only way that I knew how. Walking alone. Being alone. I was surprised. Hell. Even his brothers were shocked at the sight of Danica kissing him. I dug in my pocket for my phone when I heard it buzz.
D: where the hell are you?!
I stared at the text for awhile before I eventually just shoved it back into my pocket. He needed to stop doing that. Stop pretending that he cared. Stop leading me on. And stop being so fucking perfect and everything I wanted. And maybe even needed.
D: what the fuck. It's late
Are you crazy?
Answer me!
I swear to god, if you don't reply...
Emery. I'm worried. It's late and you're alone. Where are you?
Why did you leave?
I stared at the texts longer. I don't care if he knew that I had read them. I wasn't going to reply. Salty of me, I know.
D: please respond
Are you okay?
Do you need a ride home?
I can explain.
Explain what? What exactly was there to explain? He's single. He could do whatever the hell he wants because it's none of my business. So why did I care so much then? Why did I want to hear his explanation and hope that he didn't like the kiss. That maybe.. Just maybe.. He was hurt because that was all I felt at the moment.
I walked until I reached the bus station and thank the heavens it was the last bus to leave. When it reached the final stop, it was only a few blocks away from my apartment but that was okay because I rather keep walking anyways. It kept my mind off of stuff that I didn't even want to think about. Then it started drizzling a little and I was screwed because that small rain became a downpour. I actually cleared my head though which was sort of worth going through the heavy rain that was soaking every inch of me now. By the time I reached my apartment, it was almost ten. I walked with my eyes glued to the ground when they trailed up to see a black Porsche that sat there waiting. Shit.
I watched as Donovan elegantly got out of the car and strode right towards me. And boy, was he angry. I could practically see steam fuming out of his ears and his eyebrows furrowed together. I couldn't move as my feet was stuck to the ground like it was quicksand as I felt myself falling deeper. In love with him, that was. His face was masked but I knew he was upset with me. Why wouldn't he be? When he got close enough, I watched him drag me by the arm gently and we walked up to my apartment in silence. Opening my door quickly and getting inside, I was hoping he wouldn't follow. He fucking followed.
