"What?"
"We're in-"
"Yeah, I know we're in Italy but my question is why?" I said to him as I glanced out the window. The sun was out and smiling down at the houses and farms below us.
"Pierce and Vincent are waiting for us at our house."
"You have a house in Italy?" I gaped at him and when he walked over and placed his hand below my chin, he closed my mouth. Oh. My jaw had dropped.
"Yes. This is our secret hideout. Sometimes."
"So Marco has no ties here then? If it's so safe?" Donovan shook his head.
"He has many ties here." My body froze but I stood up quick and gave him a gentle shove.
"Are you insane? What makes you think we're safe here if they could report you to Marco and even kill you? Never mind you but us? Your brothers?" My chest rose and fell the same as his as we never left eye contact.
"Emery.." His muscles has softened as he rubbed the sides of my arms up and down in a comforting gesture.
"Trust me. You have nothing to worry about."
"How can I believe that? My life has been completely turned upside down but the worst part is that it actually made me happier. Because I am with you," I said to him as my eyes slowly trailed away. Donovan's hands came up to me as he pulled me slowly into him.
"I love you. That will never change, alright? You are the reason I wake up and want to fight for something real and this," he gestured to the space between us, "this is real. You are real and I'll be damned if I lost you." My eyes started to sting before he pressed his lips gently against mine.
"Still. How can I believe we'll be fine?" I inquired once I finally pulled away from him.
"They have ties of Marco but they aren't afraid of him. Sure, they don't want to die but he's not a problem to them."
"Well, if you say so."
"Emery," he said my name in an annoyed voice as he rolled his eyes at me.
"Yes, Donovan?" My voice sounded playful as I had said that.
"Trust me when I say this. Marco isn't who they are afraid of."
"Then who else would they be terrified of?" He gave me a long look as he held my back before his eyes dropped down to my level.
"My brothers and I."
-
So I learned that these mafia men or whatever were afraid of the man I love and his brothers. I don't know if I should be terrified or relieved for that matter. We have been driving for hours and I honestly don't know what's real. Except for us that is. We were real. Him and I.
"Em?" My eyes slowly widened as I felt Donovan's arms wrapped tightly around me. It was dark right now and my eyelids felt heavy that I couldn't even keep them open.
"Can you wake me up in a second?" I muttered as I cozied up on the leather seats.
"We're here. Let's go, baby." I groaned.
"Just .. A ... Second please. I just need... " I yawned as I felt myself slipping into another coma. God. I needed to sleep.
"Fuck it," Donovan sighed. I suddenly felt my seatbelt click and before I knew what was happening, my body was pressed against his as he carried me out of the car. He smelled nice. I smiled against his chest as I smelled the men's shampoo that always smelled so damn good. It was spicy and minty and all man. I love it.
"You smell good," I whispered as I took in a loud and long sniff of him. The last thing I heard before I slipped into another dream was his laughter; his chest shaking against me as he did so.
"Damn. She sleeps like she's fucking dead," Pierce snorted. I heard a low grumble when I heard Donovan speak.
"Shut the fuck up, Pierce. She's cute when she's sleeping," he argued. I smiled as I pulled the soft and warm cotton blanket that was around me up to my chin.
"Yeah. I wonder why she's so tired," Vincent said in a teasing voice.
"Hm. I have a clue but little princess here would fuck us up if she heard us talking about her sex life-"
"Fuck you guys!" I hissed at them as I covered my whole entire body with the blanket. They laughed as my cheeks burned under the covers.
"And the lion has awakened," Vincent said as his brothers kept laughing at me.
"You guys are assholes," I mumbled under my breath.
"Heard that. You love us anyway, Emery," Pierce said. Where the hell was I? As I pulled the blanket away from my eyes, I glanced over to see the three Saints standing with their arms crossed in front of the most gorgeous place I have ever seen. Holy shit. They were fucking loaded. Sheer curtains reached all the way to the roof like the window had. There was practically glass walls surrounding us with curtains covering it. The floor was wooden and polished to' the extent that you could see your own reflection.
"Emery," Donovan said my name in a tone that only I knew. His eyes were dark but he was smiling at me with those dimples that were so damn adorable.
"If her name is a code for something, should Vincent and I leave?"
"Yes," Donovan said.
"No," I said at the same time he had spoken. My eyes snapped to Donovan as I gave him a look.
"What time is it?" I questioned them.
"It's almost eleven o'clock. I think it's still a good time for breakfast," Donovan informed me.
"One more question," I said as I stood up. The dress flowed down my body as my hair was all over the place. I was in great need of a shower.
"Why are we in Italy again?" They stood there and gave each other looks which even I couldn't decode. What the hell now.
"Right now, this is the safest place for us. No one can look for us here," Vincent informed me.
"Guys, I can't stay in Italy forever. Seattle was the only place that I actually liked living in."
"Only until we can get this problem under control. It's not forever, Em." I gave a long look to Donovan before nodding.
"Nice mansion by the way," I said in a teasing voice as I walked towards the Windows. All I could see outside was the crystal blue water that seemed to covered all the way to the horizon. Then on the sides were lots and lots of trees that kept this house covered.
"Make yourself at home but not too much. This isn't permanent. Guys, let's go," Donovan said to his brothers. I snapped my head towards their directions.
"What? Where are you guys going?" I asked them as they started walking towards the large doors. The spiral staircase led up to the door to exit I assumed as we were a little below the ground.
"Errands. I had your bags brought to the room on the third floor in the room you'll be staying in for now. I promise we'll talk when I get back, alright? You're safe here," Donovan assured as he pressed a quick kiss against my lips. I hated how short it was but it still warmed my heart and made my skin tingle.
"Okay," I sighed. He looked me in the eyes.
"I love you," he told me with a smile.
"And I love you too. Be safe guys!" I shouted as they were about to exit. As soon as the door slammed, I was left to myself again. In a room. Full of silence which became invasive.
