Today's my first day of training!! I've never been more nervous in my life. After I get ready I go to the cafeteria and grab breakfast. You don't want to start the day with an empty stomach, much less if it's the day you've gotta prove yourself. After breakfast I head to the training area and wait for the director.
- Miss Marks, you ready?- he asked.
- As ready as I'll ever be- I said with a nervous laugh.
We enter a room, in one half it has punching bags, a treadmill, and some targets to practice shooting, the other half is empty except for a small room on one corner.
- This will be your training room- the director said.
- Who's going to train me?- I asked.
- I am- a hugely built middle aged man with mesmerizing green eyes and dark hair answered.
- This is General Titanos, he'll be your personal trainer until he's not needed- the director informed me.
- Uuum, hi?- I stammered
- Well, I'll leave you so you can get started- the director said as he left the room.
- So, have you ever done any kind of physical activities?- the general asked.
- Does P.E. class count?- I asked sarcastically.
He glared at me while pointing to the treadmill.
- You're starting there-
- Ok-
I walk over to the treadmill, step on it, and turn it on. I run for about an hour, after that he points to the punching bag. I didn't even know there was a wrong way to punch! But apparently I'm the worst puncher ever! He stops me an hour later and teaches me how to stretch.
- Now we're going to practice shooting- he said.
- What!- I exclaimed.
-Come on, pick a gun- he instructed while standing beside a table full of guns. I grab a normal looking gun, one that looks like the ones from the movies. After that I just stand there staring at him.
- What are you waiting for? SHOOT!-
- SORRY!-
I stand a few feet in front of the target, aim, close my eyes, and BANG! I open one eye when I hear laughter behind me.
- What was that! You shoot like a baby who just learned how to walk! I don't even know where to start! Maybe I'll just call my sister, she's great with guns, she's the best!- he rambled which was totally different from the man that had been here just five seconds ago. God! Can't imagine what his sister looks like if she's better with guns than him.
- We're done for today- he announced and got out of the room.
- Yay!-
I grab my things and head for the showers. After I shower, I get dressed. I walk out of the showers while putting my uniform inside my bag when I collide with something-someone- that sends me and my collider to the floor
- I'm soo sorry!- I said as I started to get up.
- It's ok- I heard the voice of a girl with a thick southern accent.
I look up and meet a pair of mesmerizing emerald eyes, they seem familiar. I finally get the strength to look away from them to take a look at the owner. A tiny, slim blonde girl. She smiles and walks away. That was totally weird.
- Kat!-
I look to my left and see Steve running towards me.
- Hi!- I said.
- How was your first day?- he asked.
- Um-
- That bad?-
- My professor probably thinks I'm a joke, so yeah, that bad-
- Come on, I know the perfect medicine!-
He starts walking and I follow him. Something I've been doing a lot lately. He stops in front of a black door that says 'KEEP AWAY'
- Steve, maybe we should keep away-
- Hey, you're no fun- he knocks the door three times and after a little while the door opens and a boy peeks half of his face from the room. He sees Steve and opens the door fully so we can come in.
- Steve! My man, long time no see!- the boy said.
- Tell me about it- Steve answered.
The boy looks at me then at Steve and clears his throat.
- Oh, right! James, this is Kathryn. Kathryn, James- Steve introduced us.
- Hi!- said James.
- Hey- I said.
- Is there anything you want Steve or you just couldn't wait to see my handsome face- joked James.
- In your dreams, I'm looking for one of your MVs- Steve said.
- Special occasion?- asked James.
- You could say- Steve answered.
James takes a book from a shelf and hands it to Steve.
- Chose one- Steve said while handing me the book.
I take the book from his hand and look at him with a confused expression on my face. What in God's name is an MV? I open the book and start looking through the pages, they're full of movie titles with a little summary each.
- Movies?- I asked.
- Yep- said Steve, - There's no better medicine for an awful day-
I continue turning pages and reading until I settle for a comedy. James gives Steve a small box with a CD inside.
- Come on!- Steve said.- You'll love it there-
We get on an elevator and go to the last floor. We walk down a hallway, Steve stop on a small storage room and grabs a small metallic ladder. We continue walking until Steve sets down the ladder in the middle of the hallway. He steps on the ladder and moves part of the roof aside.
- Ladies first- he said while he stepped away from the ladder.
- What is this?- I asked.
- You'll see!-
I step on the ladder and climb to the roof once I'm safely in what looks like and air duct, Steve follows. He puts the piece of roof back in its place and motions for me to follow. We crawl for a few minutes until we get to a small trap door. He fishes out a key from his uniform and opens the small door. He steps inside and grabs my arm so I follow him. We climb down a small set of steps until we are finally on a huge room full of people I've never seen. There are huge TVs, a lot of comfortable looking couches, a bar, tables full of food, this is awesome!!
- Welcome to the hall- Steve said with a huge grin on his face while opening his arms.
- Hey there, strangers!- Chloe said as she walked towards us.
- Hi- we both answered.
- I have something for you- Chloe told me.
She takes out a cellphone form her jeans pocket and hands it to me. - This has a safe line, you can contact your parents and your friends from Howellville-
- Wow! Thanks! How did you manage this?!- I asked.
- Called in a few favors, thought you might need someone to talk to. And even if you can't exactly tell them what's going on, you can still talk to them-
- How do I thank you?-
- You don't need to-
We spent the rest of the day watching movies, talking and I got know some pretty awesome people. But I couldn't decide if talking to my friends again was a good decision.
