CHAPTER FIVE
❛ LOSS OF A SOLDIER ❜JANE WINCED IN pain as the voices started settling in. Nick got up as quickly as he can and tried to regain his balance. "Jane! I need you to control it, can you do that?" He asked her. Jane held her head in between her hands, breathing heavily.
"Hill!" Nick called out through his comm. Whatever she said, one of the engines is down and it's impossible to get out of the helicarrier to make repairs while they're in the air and somebody's got to get outside and patch that engine.
"Stark, you copy that?" Nick asked. "I'm on it." Tony answered through the comms.
"Coulson, initiate defensive lockdown in the detention section, then get to the armory." He ordered as he was helping Jane stand up so they can get moving.
"Romanoff?" He called out, making his way down the hallway. "We're okay." Natasha reassured.
They got out of the hallway and left Jane with the paramedics not far from the main controller room. "Okay, Jane. I need you to stay in here and never get out until it's all clear, all right?" All Jane could do was nod in response, already trying all she can to not lose control.
"Bring the carrier about to a 1-8-0, heading south!" Nick ran up to his controlling panel. "Take us to the water!"
"We're flying blind." An agent said. "Navigation's recalibrating after the engine failure." He explained.
"Is the sun coming up?"
The agent looked out the window, unsure of what he should say, "Yes, sir."
"Then put it on the left." Nick commanded. "Get us over water. One more turbine goes down and we drop."

The more she resists, the more intense it gets. After what seemed like hours, she tried to do reverse psychology—to just accept it as it is and leave it be.
The small room was quiet so it wasn't hard to concentrate for her, and it worked. Well, at least only for so long. But it was better than doing nothing.
She got up to her feet, just slightly off balance, and walked through the door just in time.
"We need full evac on the power hangar bay." She heard Fury's muffled voice from the distance.
She walked faster to the main controlling room just when Maria hit the deck. "Grenade!"
Before the bomb could go off, she contained it. It was hard to do so since it was her actual first time controlling her so called gift.
Fury stared at her for a second while she nodded at him, pointing out that there's no time to talk with all of Loki's personal flying monkeys running around the helicarrier.
