"YOU HAVE BEEN STUCK ON that book ever since you decided to unpack," Sophia said to the girl, "everything okay?" She asked, bending down a bit to look at her.

"No, everything's fine." Said Jane, a little too harshly than she thought, she immediately realized her tone and sat up to look at her friend. "I'm so sorry, that came out wrong. I didn't mean to–"

"Look, if it's about that night at your house, I'm sorry. I don't know how many times I have to apologize until you can trust me again. I had orders, I was just doing my job."

"–your job," said Jane at the same time Sophia did, "yeah, I know. It's not that, I swear. I . . ." She stood up, taking the notebook she found from the box with her and went to the door. "I just need a minute." She said and closed the door behind her.

There was something about the notebook that she noticed, it was different. She's never seen it before in her life. It doesn't have a name on it, but it was written in Russian. She also took languages at school and college, so she was able to understand what it read, but unfortunately she wasn't fluent enough to speak it.

After two years went by since Loki and the Chitauri attack, she's been training with S.H.I.E.L.D. on her self defense, shooting, and actually getting better with her powers. She was now at least in Level 6. She was quick in going up the levels due to her background and being in the Avengers. She found out that her grandmother, Sarah Mayfield, was one of the co-founders at S.H.I.E.L.D.

After a lot of thinking she decided to visit her old friend, who, she was informed, lives in the same apartment building as Sophia does. She called her first to notify her about the visit and went to said place.

"Knock, knock." Jane said, instead of actually knocking it. "In a minute!" Sharon replied from inside the apartment.

She heard her unlock the door and open it, instantly hugging her old friend. "It's so nice to see you, Sharon." She said into the hug. "You too. We better go inside, though." Sharon quickly ushered her inside and offered her to sit in her living room.

"I haven't seen you in years. I was actually surprised to see your call." She smiled at her. "Why now?" She asked Jane.

"You're right. I'm sorry. Everything's been tough lately." She looked down at her rested hands on top of her knees. She told Sharon about what happened, not too much detail, but she got the message.

"Wait, your parents are missing?" She asked, and Jane nodded in response before Sharon's next question. "How's Aunt Sarah?" Sharon hesitated. Jane's grandmother, a topic she didn't want to talk about.

"Grandma is . . ." She trailed off, "she's gone." She managed to let out. Sharon covered her mouth. "I'm so sorry. I had no idea–" Sharon tried to console her.

"It's fine, how could you? I didn't tell anyone about it. Neither did my parents."

The only other people who knew Sarah Mayfield was dead other than Jane's family and close relatives were the agents that had level 9 clearance and up. Sharon thought of other subjects as this was clearly making Jane feel uncomfortable and she can see that, but Jane beat her to it.

"How's Aunt Margaret?"

"She's fine, still calls me, sometimes." Sharon smiled at her.

"Happy Birthday, Jane!" Sharon was ecstatic, and so was the small group of people that were there. Jane was turning eight. "Thank you." She smiled, just as enthusiastic. Everyone had their share of moments with Jane to give her small gifts.

The first was her parents, a plush doll she slept with every night. From Sharon and Peggy, a fiction novel, the first real book that she ever read. And from her Grandmother, a necklace. She hasn't took it off ever since.

"I see you're a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent now?" Sharon changed the subject after minutes of catching up. Jane was surprised that she would know about her being an agent. But not completely as it was probably because of her background, or how she was with the Avengers, or how she could see her walking by at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, but she didn't think anyone would pay attention.

"Yes, I am." She said in an as-a-matter-of-factly tone. "How come I never see you?" Questioned Jane.

"I'm actually on a special duty right now." She answered, "I'm Kate the nurse."

Jane was amused. "Should I call you Kate now?" She laughed.

"You just might have to," Sharon crossed her arms, "this is serious, Jane," holding back her laugh, but kind of disappointed in Jane for not being serious and how she continued her laughing.

She was interrupted with a text message from Natasha.

MISSION ALERT.
EXTRACTION IMMINENT.
MEET OUTSIDE. :)

"Speaking of serious," Jane sighed and turned off her phone, "I gotta go." She stood up, absentminded that she left her notebook. Sharon nodded in understanding and hugged her before closing the door after her.

The second Jane stepped out the door, she realized one thing she forgot, which wasn't her notebook. "Hey, Sharon?" She immediately called, and Sharon looked at her, "do you mind if I . . . have her number?" She asked, with Sharon looking puzzled. "Aunt Margaret, I mean." She said, noticing Sharon's look. "Sure, I'll text you, all right?" Sharon told her and she nodded and made way to the lobby.

"Nat!" Jane called, after going down a couple of floors and to the lobby. Natasha stopped the car and gestured her to get in.

"Where's Steve?" Jane asked as soon as she got in the backseat. "We're heading to him now." Natasha informed as she started to move the vehicle.

The ride wasn't that long, not as awkward as before, and a lot better company now that they're closer friends. While they were talking, Jane took in the view of D.C., and how it's different from New York and that she decided that she should get out more. Natasha and Jane spotted Steve talking to a man, no one they've seen before.

Natasha pulled up behind Steve and rolled down a window. "Hey fellas. Either one of you know where the Smithsonian is? I'm here to pick up a fossil." She sassed and Jane couldn't help but let out a little laugh.

"That's hilarious." Steve laughed as he went to get into the car. Steve sat in the front seat next to Natasha, Jane was immediately squished due to Steve's large build.

"Steve, please move your seat up." Jane said and Steve did so. "Yeah, that doesn't help." Jane mumbled to herself, seeing as the car backseat didn't have much space.

"Can't run everywhere." Steve said to Sam, as she was informed.

"No, you can't."
