Chapter 28

I sat on my gaming chair, uploading a video before I eat dinner. I see Lauren out of the corner of my eye.

"Mitch?" she asks.

"Yeah," I say, turning around. She pulled her sweater over her hands, bunching up the ends in her fists.

"I see the cuts on your arm," she whispers, nodding towards my arm, crossing her own. I cover up my arm quickly.

"You're very observant aren't you?" I ask. She laughs lightly.

"Yeah, I guess so," she says with a slight smile . She walks up and kisses my cheek before walking upstairs. I smile before turning and finish uploading the video. I hear a crash of something on the wooden flooring of my kitchen. I quickly run upstairs, looking at what happened. Tris was on his knees, holding his face in his hands. Lauren stood behind him, hugging him from behind.

"What happened?" I ask, starting to pick up the broken phone.

"My dad... he was shot..." Tris whispers. Lauren kisses the top of his head, a tear falling down her face and onto his hair. He turns and hugs her, placing his head in her shoulder. Lauren hugs him tightly, kissing his cheek over and over. Dustin and Dusk come into the room.

"What happened?" Dustin asks. Lauren explains the situation. Dusk runs and hugs Tris too, as does Dustin. They all hug for a while, crying softly as I finish cleaning up the broken phone. I throw away the phone as Tris stands.

"I don't have anyone to live with," he whispers. Lauren stands.

"No, you're living with me," she said, holding his face in her hands. He takes her hands, keeping then where they are, rubbing his thumbs over her knuckles.

"You were living with me before my dad died. Your parents are dead along with mine," he said. She shook her head.

"Don't remind me," she cries before hugging him tightly. Dustin looks at me with hopeful eyes. I took the downstairs room already, Dustin took one of the upstairs rooms, Dusk took another. One more spare room.

"I don't see why not Duss," I say. He smiles and hugs Dusk, who has not a clue about what is going on. Dustin lets her go and whispers to Lauren what was happening. She covers her mouth before telling Tris. He smiles.

"Thank you Mitch," he says, walking up to me and hugging me. Lauren hugs me too, along with Dusk and Dustin. We were in a hug for a while until I heard my Skype call. Everyone ran downstairs with me.

Preston

I press accept and his face enters the screen.

"Hello!" he said, smiling before he raises an eyebrow.

"Who are they?" he asks, pointing at all the teens that stood next to me.

"My brother and my roommates," I say. They all say hi. Preston nods.

"Those girls are really pretty," he says, pointing at Lauren and Dusk. Lauren blushes before hiding her face in Tris's chest.

"Back off, she's mine," Tris warns. Lauren peeks out her face to smile at Preston.

"And I'm taken by this guy," Dusk said, poking Dustin in the face. He laughs before kissing her cheek. Preston laughs.

"I have a girlfriend guys. I was just complimenting. But if you girls weren't taken and if I wasn't taken, one of you would be in my room," he said, pointing at them. Lauren blushes a deeper red, almost crimson. Tris laughs as she hides again.

"Well I'd have you in my bed too," Dustin said sarcastically, winking at Preston. Preston smiled and placed his hand over his heart.

"Oh baby," he said. I'm sitting here awkwardly the whole time this is happening. Dustin and Preston go on play-flirting.

"I can't take this anymore," Dusk said, taking Dustin's face in her hands and kissing him. Preston looked shocked.

"Dustin! How could you? I thought he had something!" he said fake-hurt as Dustin and Dusk pull away from each other.

"I'm sorry, babe. But Dusk is mine," he said, winking at Preston. Preston fake-cried into his hands.

"How could you?" he said, holding his heart.

"Go drink some GungHo and you'll be good," Dustin said. Preston bursts out laughing.

"Oh God. Good meeting you all," Preston said. We all said good bye as Preston hangs up.

"I gotta admit, your flirting, Dusty, was awesome," Tris said, Lauren, Dustin, Dusk and I laugh as Tris smiles, hugging Lauren. I hear the doorbell ring so I run upstairs to see who it is. A man, about six foot, stood in the frame.

"May I help you?" I say. The man straightened his coat.

"Yes. Is Dustin Hughes home?" he asks. I shook my head before telling the man to leave. The man leaves my property before I call police. I run downstairs and look at Dustin.

"There was guy here. He needed to see you," I say. His eyes widen.

"Oh God no..." he whispered before looking at Tris. He nods before running upstairs, taking something out of his pocket. I hear yelling before a gunshot is heard. Lauren screams and covers her ears. I run upstairs, looking out the window.

Tris was okay, but the guy wasn't. He was laying face down on the ground, dead I assumed. I run downstairs and tell Lauren that he's okay. She cried into her hands as Tris runs down the stairs, hugging her. She cries into his shoulder as he picks her up and sits down in the chair.

Who was he and what did he want with my brother?
