Chapter 12

"Rob! What the hell man!" I yell at him. He backs up and runs into his car.

"I'm sorry!" he says. Mat gets up from the ground, wiping blood from his lip. He stands firm on his feet before looking at Rob. His face twists into anger.

"YOU! YOU ALMOST KILLED REEGAN!" he yells, starting to charge towards him. I have to hold him back so he won't murder him. Reegan presses her hands against the glass on the car window. Her eyes start watering with tears. I look at her, my eyes watering as well. I turn back to Mat, anger fuming in me. I grab his shoulders and slap his face.

"LOOK AT YOUR DAUGHTER! LOOK AT WHAT YOU'RE DOING TO HER! YOU'RE TRAMATIZING HER! YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE HER THINK OF HER PAST! DO YOU REALLY WANT THAT MAT? HUH? DO YOU?" I yell at him. He breathes heavily before falling to his knees. I have to back up so it doesn't look weird.

I bit my lip as Mat starts to cry. Rob looks at me.

"Mitch, I'm sorry," he says, his eyes brimming with tears. I look back at Reegan, who was crying and holding her wrist.

"It's okay but, Reegan. She's hurt," I say. I start to run towards Mat's car. I open the car door she was in. She hugged me immediately.

"Uncle Mitch, my wrist hurts," she said. I take her wrist and look at it. Her wrist was bleeding and it was black and blue. I pick her up and bring her to Mat. Mat stands up and takes Reegan from me. He cradles her in his arms.

"I'm so sorry, baby. I'm so sorry," he mumbles, crying as his tears drop onto her face.

"Daddy, am I going to die?" she asks. He shakes his head no.

"Baby, you'll live. You won't die," he looks up at me, "Let's go." He starts walking towards his car. Reegan's head lolls to the side, her bloody wrist falling from her stomach as Mat gets into the passenger seat of his car. Rob gets into the back as I get into the drivers seat.

Rob looks down at his feet, tears falling onto the floor of the car. Mat rocks Reegan slowly. His tears fell onto her bleeding body. My tears fell onto the wheel. I drove into the parking lot of the hospital. We run into the hospital, Mat carefully trying not to drop Reegan.

The nurses quickly bring Reegan into the ER. Mat sits down in the waiting room, tears staining his cheeks. I sit next to him.

"What if she dies?" he cries into his hands. I pat his shoulder. Rob sits on the chair next to me.

"Rob it's not your fault. You didn't know," I say. He nods as a nurse comes out.

"Mr. Nooch?" the nurse said. Mat stands up and walk over to her. His expression was mixed. Sadness took over his emotions as he walked back over to us.

"She said... she went into a medical-induced coma. She might die," Mat cries into his hands.

"Oh my God..." I say. My eyes brim with tears. She might die. I walk out of the hospital and into the clinic that was about 5 minutes away. I grab a pregnancy test from the aisle and go to pay. I pay for it and walk back to the hospital. I walk over to Mat and Rob. They look at me.

"I need to run to my house quickly. I'll be back soon," I say. They nod and I walk to the car. I start to drive home. It takes me about 15 minutes to get there. I quickly run inside and hand the bag to Rebecca. She looks at me.

"What is this?" she asks.

"Guess what it is," I say. She takes it out of the bag. She sighs in relief.

"Thank you Mitch," she says, getting up and hugging me. She runs to the bathroom quickly. I sit on my couch, waiting for her to be finished. About 20 minutes later she comes out of the bathroom. A look of happiness mixed with worriedness is spread across it.

"I'm not pregnant," she says, giving me the test. I look down at it. One line. Not pregnant. I blow air out of my nose loudly. I look up at her.

"We should go to the doctors to check. See if the test is correct," I say. She nods and walks with me out the door. She looks at Mat's car, then the road where the two cars still stand, motionless against the black pavement.

"What happened?" she asks.

"Rob crashed into the back of my car, causing Reegan's wrist to start bleeding. So I took Mat, Rob, and her to the hospital and they are still there. Reegan might die from blood loss," I say. Rebecca hugs me tightly.

"That's horrible," she mumbles. I nod and lead her to Mat's car. She gets in the passenger seat as I get into the drivers seat. I start the car and drive to the hospital.

We enter the hospital doors to see Mat kneeling on the ground, a nurse in front of him and Rob rubbing his back. I run over to them, so does Rebecca.

"What happened?" I ask. Mat looks at me, a slight smile on his tear stained face.

"Reegan will live. She's going to live," he says. I sigh in relief as Rebecca hugs Mat. Rebecca turns to me, a look in her eye telling me to go to the front desk and tell them. I take Rebecca's hand and walk to the front desk. We explain our situation and walk to the waiting room. A few minutes later, Rebecca is called. She kisses my cheek and walks to the nurse.

I wait for about 2 hours. Rebecca comes back out crying. A nurse followed behind her. I stand.

"What happened?" I say, hugging Rebecca.

"Rebecca. She's infertile." The nurse apologizes before leaving.

"What does that mean?" I ask Rebecca.

"It mean I can't have children," she says, tears blurring her vision. I hug her tighter.

How much more can I take of this depression?
