"Oh! You two scared me." My mom says in a slurred voice as she holds her hand against her chest and her other hand swings her wine glass wide; spilling half its content on one of the picture albums.

"Shit." She curses as she jumps up out if her chair; knocking it to the floor; and stumbles quickly into the kitchen to snatch a towel off the counter and then rushes back to the table to begin wiping up her spill.

I let go of Faiths hand and grab the roll of paper towels before going over to help my mother clean up the wine.

"I'm s-sorry Landon." Mom half slurs, half cries as she wipes the wine off the picture album.

"It's okay mom, at least it's white wine." I attempt to joke so she won't cry.

"Your father is really going to hate me now." She mumbles.

"Dad doesn't hate you mom." I say with a sigh as I continue to wipe up the spill.

"He's so mad at me right now." She mumbles.

"He's not even here; why would he be mad at you?"

"I wanted to ask him what time he was coming home tomorrow because I thought it would be nice if we could all get together for a late lunch or something before I have to fly back to California tomorrow. When I called his cellphone some woman answered the phone."

"Oh..." I trail off as I look over at my mother as tears stream down her face...shit...I don't know what to say to her right now.

"Oh is right!" Mom says loudly before she drains her wine glass and then slams it down on the dining room table.

I see Faith's body jerk in fear out of the corner of my eye as she stands between the kitchen and the dining room.

"I asked her who she was. I asked her why she was answering my husband's phone." Mom says in the same loud voice and her words sound angry as she narrows her eyes at me...shit...

"You and dad aren't married anymore mom." I try to say calmly.

"That's what that whore said too! How dare her speak to me like that."

"Mom, you don't even know Elizabeth so you shouldn't call her names."

"That's what your father said to me. Why am I always the last to know what the hell is going on in this family!" Mom spits out the words before lifting up the bottle of wine and taking a few swigs right from the bottle.

I see Faith back a little further into the kitchen...she must be scared right now and that pisses me off. I don't need my drunk mother scaring my girl like that.

"Can you stop shouting and give me that bottle." I say as I reach to take the wine from her hand.

"What are you, my mother? I don't need some little boy telling me what I can and can't do." Mom is screaming at this point and I am starting to get impatient with her drunken behavior.

"How much have you had to drink?" I ask calmly.

"Not that much." She slurs.

"There are three empty bottles on the counter over here." Faith calls from the kitchen.

"You shut your mouth out there. This is a family matter little girl and it doesn't concern you. You shouldn't even be here right now! Leave it up to Henry to take in a piece of trailer park trash that my crippled son dragged home." Mom yells out as she starts to make her way towards the kitchen. I reach out and grab her arm to stop her.
