The look in his gray eyes are full of question and...even worse...accusation.
"Stop looking at me like that dad!" I snap.
"I didn't touch her! Her douche bag ex-boyfriend did that to her last night." I lower the sound of my voice but my tone is still harsh.
"I'm sorry son...I know better, I guess she just confused me." Dad says as he steps towards the counter after Faith turns away from him to go back to cooking breakfast.
"Tell me what happened." He says as he takes a seat across from me.
"She got off work a little early so she could go to her mother's trailer to get some money she left there and when she came back outside Ian and three of his friends were checking out your Caddy. He started asking her a bunch of questions and when she tried to get in the car he grabbed ahold of her and tried to kiss her. She spit in his face and then he back handed her and forced his mouth on hers. She bit him and kneed him in the groin and got the hell out of there. Unfortunately, he caught up to her and followed her home. He knows where we live now."
"This isn't good...the police should be notified." Dad says quietly.
"We're going to the police station after breakfast. I'm hoping the asshole is on probation; they'll throw his ass back in jail."
"I'm sure he'll go to jail anyhow once they see that bruise on her face."
"I have bruises on my arm too." Faith chimes in and dad and I look over to see her pulling the sleeve up on her shirt to show us the bruises.
Even from across the room, the dark spots match up perfectly with fingers and a thumb because of how tightly he had ahold of her.
My mind instantly thinks back to the tight grip I had on her wrist last night because I was so scared when I saw that bruise on her cheek.
My eyes dart to her wrist and I can't see a mark on it and I let out a small sigh of relief.
"I have a dumb question but I have to ask it." Dad says as he turns to look at Faith while I get up and go to get a cup of coffee for the two of us.
"What's that?" Faith asks as she glances over her shoulder.
"How much money did you leave at your mothers?" Dad says in a strange tone.
He almost sounds...not so much angry but definitely irritated.
I glance back and forth between his face and Faith's to wait for her answer...now that he's asked; the answer seems intriguing to me.
How much are the bruises on her body and the fear imbedded in her worth?
"A little over five hundred dollars." Faith states in a clear voice.
As though she is trying to justify her actions.
Stupid girl...
"That's it!" Dad says in shock.
"Five hundred dollars is so important to you that you risked getting yourself hurt? Five hundred dollars was worth that kind of danger? The danger you are still in? That this whole family is in now?" My dad's voice got louder by the end of his rant and when I see Faith flinch and curl her shoulders in as though she were trying to hide herself from his eyes; I step towards her and pull her to my chest.
"Please don't yell at her dad." I say quietly but the look I give my father is by no means friendly or calm.
"I know it seems stupid to you Henry but I needed the money. With school starting next week, I really need to get my own car and the five hundred dollars will help me." She defends.
