*****TWO DAYS LATER*****

"I just don't see the point in you going there if you don't have to Faith."

"I have worked for Lou for almost four years now and I think he deserves to have me explain why I'm taking some time off in person."

"Time off? I though we agreed that you were going to quit."

"I know but..."

"But what Faith? You know how much I hate you being there; not at Lou's; I hate you being that close to your mother."

"My mom hasn't even tried anything since the week I left. Lou told her to stay away and she has."

"I know, but you of all people know how that trailer park works. You were there two days ago and there was a noticeable scene outside of your mother's trailer; you think she won't know every detail? You think she won't try to find you again now that she knows you are still around? You don't think Ian told people that he followed you here? I'm surprised she hasn't showed up at the front door to be honest with you."

"I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm taking my truck to the garage and no one will know it's me."

"How do you know that? How do you know that Ian doesn't have one of his buddies watching this house?"

"I guess I don't know that but then again neither do you. Come with me if you're so worried about it."

"Fine...but let's take Jake too just in case there are any problems." I resolve.

...

We are on our way to pick up Jake when my cellphone starts ringing and the caller ID tells me the call is coming from the Greenfield police department so I motion for Faith to pull over as I answer the phone.

"Hello?"

"Yes, hello am I speaking with Landon Styles?"

"Yes you are."

"Hi Landon, my name is Trooper Jenkins and I'm from the Greenfield police department. I have a report on an Ian Goodman sitting here in front of me and there is a note highlighted on the arrest instructions stating that you be informed when an arrest has been made."

"Yes sir, I made that request. Did you arrest him then?"

"Yes, we brought him in about an hour ago and he'll be transported to county by the end of the day."

"How long will he be in jail?"

"I can't give you that answer. I'm just the arresting officer on the case but from what I've read in his report, most likely he'll be in for a while unless someone posts bail for him."

"How much is the bail?"

"Again, I can't give you that answer but in comparison to other detainees with similar backgrounds I'd say probably around twenty grand maybe a little more considering he broke his probation."

"How can he even qualify for bail if he broke his probation in the first place?"

"Look kid, I can understand your frustration but you need to understand how the system works. It's not always so black and white; sometimes there is a gray area in cases like this. Over population is a big problem in the surrounding institutions and unless he's a flight risk, most likely his bail will be approved just to make room for someone who has a greater violation of the law."
