"Mom? What are you doing here?" I blurt out.

"I came to see you Landon. Thanks for telling me about your surgery and the fact that you can actually walk again; I can't believe I had to hear that from your father."

"I wanted to surprise you." I attempt to lie to her.

"You always were such a terrible liar Landon. Aren't you going to invite me in?"

"Of course, come on in mom." I say as I swing the door wide and shoot a look over my shoulder to see my dad smiling in the doorway of the kitchen.

"Charlie! What a nice surprise to see you!"

"What surprise Henry? After your phone call last week I booked my flight and arranged to have some time off of work to come and see my son. Why I don't know; he doesn't seem to even consider me on a daily basis."

"Don't be like that Charlie; Landon isn't a little boy anymore. He just wants to do things on his own you know."

"Fine but what's wrong with him telling me about his plans?"

"I'm really sorry mom."

"Dad also tells me that your girlfriend lives here as well; why am I always the last to know these things Landon?"

"Did dad explain to you exactly why she lives here?"

"He said her mother was a drunk and was abusive towards her. Henry never could leave the stray cats to fend for themselves."

"Are you calling my girlfriend a stray cat?" I ask in anger...why do I even let this woman piss me off anymore...

"No, not at all. I think you misunderstood my point Landon. I only meant that your father has a big heart and when he has the opportunity to help someone he does. I think it's very sweet that he has given your girlfriend a safe place to live. Speaking of your girlfriend; where is she? I want to finally meet this girl."

"She's not here; she doesn't get off work until ten."

"Well what shall we do until she gets home then?" My mom asks as she flops on the couch in the living room.

"We were just getting ready to watch a movie Charlie; you are more than welcome to join us." My dad offers.

"I don't suppose you have anything good to eat out in the kitchen do you? I am completely starved; the food on the flight was dreadful."

"Come out into the kitchen with me Charlie; I just put some chicken Scampi in the fridge so I can warm you up a plate of that."

"That sounds good Henry, thank you." Mom says as she follows dad into the kitchen and I quickly pull my phone out of my pocket to send out a warning text to Faith.

Me: I know u r going 2 freak out about this but my mother is here.

Faith: Like at our house?

Me: Yeah, she just showed up about 15 minutes ago.

Faith: She wants 2 meet me 2morrow doesn't she?

Me: No, 2nite actually. She's waiting until u get home from work. Dad already told her u live here.

Faith: She must hate me. What is she going 2 think about my grungy appearance?

Me: She doesn't hate u, she doesn't even know u. I told her u work at the garage & u get dirty, she'll get over it.

Faith: I'm freaking out.
