Ash:
I stood, already waiting in her room with the supplies, and told Dean to spend some brotherly bonding time that he desperately needed after spending nearly every waking moment with me. "Shoo." I told him, waving my hand at him as I tied a bandana around my head to keep the hair out of my face.
Amy soon came in, in a rather good mood might I add with more supplied in her hands.
"Ready?" She asked and I laughed, "I should be telling you that since it is your room," I rolled up my sleeves and set out the newspaper to keep the paint from dripping onto the actual floors.
Purple, ah yes one of her favorite colors. Along with green of course.
She pulled out the paint and I scrunched my nose. "Paint never smells any less appealing, does it?" "What is it with you and scents?" Amy asked, laughing as she tied her hair up. I pulled out the wooden stirrer and proceeded to stir it. "Dunno, I can deal with gore fine. Scents are what get me. Like they confirm that it's real." "Then how can you stand to hunt?" She asked in a serious tone. I was about to sigh and ask if she hadn't let it go still when she laughed. "I'm kidding with you Ashley, so long as you come out in one piece I'll be fine." "I promise to do just that. Besides, scars are cool than decapitation anyhow." I replied, laughing as I pulled out the paint roller.
Amy shrugged, "I dunno, you could pull off the stumpy look." "Pfft, I could pull off anything if I tried. Most of the time I'm lazy though so I'd just look like Gimpy." I replied, referring back to one of the dumbest guys in our class at the college. He had gotten himself into a car wreck and lost a foot in the accident, and it always looked like he had a pebble in his shoe.
It's not like we hated him for getting drunk and driving, we hated him for killing another person in the accident because of his dumb decisions and hearing multiple accusations of rape.
So comparing myself to Gimpy was an insult, but we both laughed at it anyhow.
We started to paint, reminiscing about old jokes and talked about who we should have probably kicked for being an asshole. Good times.
"We should take a break, my mind's starting to swim from the fumes." I said after two hours, and we had only painted two of the walls. Amy said she was "supervising" so I was doing most of the work, not that I minded or anything.
She nodded and we headed out to the kitchen. "No getting paint on the kitchen!" Dean exclaimed, running in after he heard us walking towards there and he had out two wet rags. "Wash your hands first." He instructed and I poked his cheek with my purple finger. "Okay mom." "Ash," he groaned, rolling his eyes as he he futilely tried to wipe the already drying paint from his cheek.
Amy was dying of laughter as she walked into the kitchen and I tossed her the rag. "This has been a good day." She deducted, smiling peacefully as she looked around then something in her eyes seemed to dim.
"What is it...?" I asked, and she shook her head, pulling herself out of thought. "Nothing, don't worry about it. It's just something I have to talk to Sammy about, Ash, no sweat."
The way she said that made me worry even so.
Did she suddenly feel awkward about being around Sam all day?
I knew my best friend, and just getting a room to herself may not be enough. "Do you want to finish the room?" I asked her and she gave a nod. "Yeah, I just...I'll talk to you about it later. Okay?"
"Okay..." I muttered, as we headed back to her room with de-fogged minds to finish up.
We took turns telling really corny jokes and bad puns, the first one to groan/sigh in shame would lose.
I won.
Let me tell you the joke: So a man is married to a woman named Lorraine , he's also having an affair with a woman named Clearly. One day, Lorraine falls ill and soon dies. At the funeral, the man stands up and sees Clearly in the audience when he starts to sing: "I can see Clearly now, Lorraine is gone!"
A classic.
It was dinner when we finally finished up painting the entire room, and I wiped my forehead. "Wow, that was a lot more work than I expected it to be." She gave a nod. "It was, now go see Dean, I know you've been dying without him." "I have not been dying without him. I am an independent woman. But yes, I do want to see him." I added, a small blush crossing my face and she laughed. "You are adorable." As she left the room. I am so glad that we're best friends.
